Fireflies Problems

Hello, I'm pretty new to Daz, been working with it for only a couple of weeks now and I been getting these little dots for some reason. I believe they are call fireflies and I searched up but none of the methods seem to be working for me. I apologize if this is a question that has been asked before, but I was unable to find a clear answer. My question: how would I go about getting rid of "fireflies" in the scene NVIDIA iray render.

In the first image, I have the default lighting and I like it but it has fireflies/little dots and I want to remove it.

In the second image, the fireflies are removed because I been turning up the Nominal Luminance by between 0.1 and 2. It seems to remove the fireflies but the image or character becomes dark as you can see. I'm not sure is because of the lighting or what. I have tried adding lighting but it doesn't seem to change.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated!imageimage

  • You could get better input from folks on the boards if you put a screen cap of your current render settings.

Absent that, I'd say try to add more light and render longer (more iterations).

If you mean the pixelation in the hair, I think that might be a backscattering value that some hairs have.

I look at the surfaces for the hair, since one of the colors is causing problems.  I set each one in turn to bright red and render.  You found it when the sparkles turn red.  This works for clothes too.

which hair is that?, how many iterations does have your render?

does not look like fireflyes to me, more than few iterations in iray that got solved when higher count is showned, fireflyes are or perfect white or multicolor but not black dots.

I'm using "Hair and Glasses for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s)" for the character and yes is little white dots.

How would I do that? All my sparkles or dots have been all white so...is it the hair that is actually causing the problem,

I think I stumbled upon the same problem (or at least a very similar problem) in one of my older renders after re-rendering it in version 4.15.0.2 of Daz Studio.

The same file rendered today with version 4.14.0.8 compared with one using version 4.15.0.2. Something must have changed between these two versions! I'm using a different hair (Steven Hair for Genesis 3 and Genesis 8):

The post from PerttiA linking to this thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/465896/hair-renders-with-weird-glitches-could-really-use-some-advice#latest also gave some advice. However after turning the Cutout Opacity from 1.0 to 0.99 I got a slightly better result, but 4.14 still gives the better result!

NOTE: All of the renders are without any Post Denoiser options!

I rendered a character bust last night for a client in 4.15, and lo and behold I'm having the EXACT same issue, as well I noticed that there were transparent holes in the render, similar to fireflies but instead of being white, they cut through the image entirely.

I have the same issue with Windfield hair that rendered perfectly with 4.14 (same scene).I think I will just revert to 4.14.

I had the same problem and followed advice to set the SSS amount in the surfaces tab for all parts of the hair to Zero.  It worked, thankfully! :)
