    That's a nice looking zipper for sure.

    Transparency ... and some of the other issues you mentioned have to do with knowing how to use the programs.
    Doesn't really matter how things look from Hexagon into D/S, the texturing is applied in D/S and various settings dialed up or down for the final look to be as desired in the D/S render. Transparency => Opacity and dial it down some.

    As to the 2 missing bolts, those would be welded to the helmet and after all the modeling and welding is done, the item is uvmapped, etc.

    For the import/export sizes, check through some of those tutorials I made and you downloaded ;-)
    Noticed that you have no measurement selected. For the Hexagon export, I use the "m" [metre].

    If you want all of that helmet to be together in rigging, it needs to be "one piece".
    After it is one piece, it should rig better.
    I'd be inclined to simply rig it as a prop and make morphs for any required adjustments.
