Importing Metadata (User data), but it is only recreating a tenth of my custom categories
I'm rebuilding my Daz program on a new computer, and most interested in importing my custom Categories structure from the old machine. After a lot of research on Importing User Data, I managed to get it to work, but only about a tenth of the categories were recreated. Is there a known solution for this. I'm wondering if I did the process incorrectly? Here's how I performed the export/import of my user data:
1. On the old computer/Daz 4.10 Pro, I used "Export User Data" to create the UserData_1.dsx file.
2. On the new computer/Daz 4.15 Pro I used "Re-Import Metadata", but nothing happened. After some research, I discovered that PostgreSQL needs to be installed, so I used DIM to install PostgreSQL along with a bunch of other stuff the software advised.
3. Then, I discovered that the UserData_1.dsx file needs to be in the "support" folder to be imported. But, there was no Content>Runtime>Support folder to be found on the new computer, so I created my own as follows: C:\Users\admin\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Runtime\Support (There are no other folders or files in the runtime currently--just the support folder)
4. Finally, the "Re-Import Metadata" function worked , but it only imported about 1/10th of my custom categories from the old computer.
I'm hoping I did this all in the correct order and there is some bit of information I have overlooked.

In order to re-import user data the files have to exist in your content folders. After the files are installed the user data can be re-imported.
Did you re-import the product data, too? The custom categories depend on the existence of information about Products and all their items in the CMS database.
The fact that you did not have a Runtime/Support folder in your library kind of suggests it isn't in the right place. When you exported the User Data, it would have gone to the Runtime/Support folder on the original machine. I assume you copied the entire Library over to the new machine? There most definitely would be a Runtime/Support folder, unless you installed everything manually. The metadata that is installed in the database all comes from the .dsx files in the Support folder when installed with DIM or DAZ Central.
Are you sure there was only one UserData_nnn.dsx file? They max out at about 30 MB.
Thank you!
No, I have not copied the my library (CONTENT folder) to the new computer yet.
And i have not used any manual installers yet (like "setup programs")
The only items installed are in this folder: C:\Users\admin\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud ....but i think this is stuff that DAZ imported from my online account, and then I installed them through the install tab in Daz studio.
Ok I understand I will need to copy my old "Content" folder over to the new computer. What about all the items installed through DAZ's "install" tab? They don't seem to go to the content folder. I find most of them in this folder: C:\Users\admin\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud Should I copy over all the folders and files from the old cloud folder?
.
Okay, you're using Connect, which will try to download everything again on the new computer. I believe you can copy over all the content so that it doesn't have to be re-installed. Connect should take care of the metadata, then you can import your UserData.

Thanks. Last question: I copied one of the product folders from my old "cloud" directory, and pasted it into the new computer's cloud folder, but it is not showing as installed inside the program. Am i doing this the wrong way?
I don't use Connect, so I couldn't really say. Maybe after a while, the products will show as available, and need to be installed, but since the content is already there, it might just do a quick verification and not need to download everything, but that's just speculation.
I have all my content on an external drive and Daz Studio installed on my C drive. I had my C drive replaced with a larger SSD. I had to re-install my programs. Everything in connect showed as being un-installed. I had to go through and select groups of them and select install. Good news was since it was already downloaded on the external drive, it just added the entries to the database which was pretty quick. Bad news was I had a lot of products so it took several days. (I only did it in batches.) There were some cases though where it re-downloaded some of the items.
