Problems Importing Items Into DAZ 4.6

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

I'm starting to use DAZ 4.6 and I am having problems importing items in the previous version of DAZ into the new version. At the moment I am using DAZ 4.0 and on it I have a folder called 'Studio' full of items (props, clothes, and poses) that won't fit into the regular categories for different reasons. In DAZ 4.6 these items show up in the same location as on the previous version but I can't pull them up. It's just an empty space where the thumbnail to click on the items are supposed to be.

That sounds as if the content directories are not set up correctly - could you post a screenshot of your Content Library pane, showing the empty folder and the path leading it to it at the top (starting from the first folder), also a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager (Edit>Preferences>Content Library in Windows, Apple menu>Preferences>Content Library on a Mac, and then click the Content Directory Manager button) with all the entries under Current fully expanded.

Here are the screenshots you wanted. I included a shot from DAZ 4 to show you what is supposed to be there. The Content Directory setup is the same as it is in DAZ 4.

If they are DAZ Studio-format files, make sure you're looking under DAZ Studio Formats. I know at one point there was a bug that showed them under Other Formats as well, but that was fixed. Other formats should only be used for formats that aren't displayed under DS-formats or Poser-formats.

I have tried looking under DAZ Studio format. All the stuff that is supposed to work in those files works.

What's the exact path and filename of something that isn't showing up?

There is far too many items to list. They are all located in the "Other Import Formats" folder in the studio subsection.

    Just pick one.

    Just pick one.

Let's go with the example in the picture. It is a pose set called StandingHQPoses. The folder is entitled StandingHQPoses_98164_98170 it then goes StandingHQPoses>Runtime>Libraries>Pose>StandingHQPoses.

So it's a Poser .pz2 file? But you don't have StandongHQPoses selected as a Poser-format content folder.

The Runtime folder needs to be in the folder you have selected as a Poser content directory, not in a sub-folder - you won't see Poser-format files under other formats in DS 4.6, I'm afraid.

So it's more of a problem with the way the file was arranged by the person who made it?

If you install the Runtime should end up in the right place, but if you use the Windows unzip tool you will get the files placed in a folder named for the zip and within that you may have a folder named Content, or My Library, or the like which you don't want.

That is what I do. I use the Windows unzip tool. How should I do it manually?

You want to merge it with the Runtime in one of your existing content folders, or else you need to add the new location as a Poser-format content folder.

I have been moving the files to their right spots manually and it does work.

Yes, as long as the files end up in a content folder DAZ Studio knows about.
