Iray Render VRAM Required for Scene

First I am sure this is covered somewhere but I cannot seem to find it.

I am trhing to figure out how I can see now much VRAM a Scene will need before I try to Render it.  I have a GTX1080 TI and many of my redners go back to the CPU.  I could be doing something wrong or have wrong Settings somwhere. I could be wrong but if I could limit my VRAM needed to 10GB or less it should run on the card.  I have attached the latest log for one that ran for 2 hours till I stopped it.  Do nknow know if means anthingthing but the DUF file for my scence is 8.9MB

I am guessing I have alot to learn need to know where to Start

  • You can't know in advance, it depends on what Iray does with the data DS sends to it - soem things will consume more memory than others. Experience may let you make an informed guess, but that's about the ebst you can hope for.

  • That explains Why I cannot find it.  As for what I am doing wrong is there some basic settings I should be starting with?

  • What is in the scene?

Since you build scene gradually you can see how memory consumption is going up  and then you notice that probably adding something more to this scene will not going to fit anymore

when that happens you rescale textures and see how much memory got freed

unfortunately, Daz does not provide any info about how much memory is used but you can get some estimate in windows GPU statistic

the only way to do it so far is just to monitor memory usage manually and if rendering fails readjust your scene and try again

That screenshot doesnt look like that bounced to CPU to me.

You need to click the Sensors tab on GPUz.
