How to install external .duf files for use in Daz 3D?

SHNSHN Posts: 16

I found some content ( poses, outfits, etc.) that I got from another place. Everything uses .duf so they should work with Daz3D, but all I get when trying to include them into a scene is that the program has recieved the file, but the file is never opened/used. Its a bit confusing for me. I've made sure to import the proper files to my content library (Documents-> DAZ 3D-> Studio-> My DAZ connect library -> data -> cloud ).

You can't install external content in that directory, that's only for content installed via Connect and DS won't see content manually installed there.

You need to install it in another content directory, for example the "My library" folder.

Ok, but how can I use the files? The Daz 3D software doesn't seem to recognize any .duf files not installed via connect even if in a different directory all together. It will register that I am trying to use them though

What is the product? It may require special handling in some way. And what are your content directories - Edit>Preferences>Content tab>Content Directory Manager

Most of it is just poses/ animations. My content directories are CMS Cluster directory, Daz connect data, Daz Studio formats, and Poser formats

Your My Library folder is probably found under something like:   Users\yourname\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

For all poser stuff, you can never risk just extracting the zip files straight into My Library.  You pretty much have to have to extract them first and take a look inside. I.E just make a 'new folder' in your downloads folder temporarily to do this.  Then manually copy the resulting runtime, people, props, data (etc etc) folders into your My Library folder.   You may want to ingnore the documentation, readme, templates folders.

Usually I dont delete the temporary unzipped folder instanty, as I usually need to go back in there to actually work out where the files will end up within daz.  I.e. are they in the poser figures bit or poses/mats, are they under a creator name folder first?  Are they actually over in the daz my library section instead?  Half the time stuff you buy on rendo can be tough to find, let alone the sharecg freebie things.

I didnt extract them straight to the library ( I did basically what you said). My library file is completely empty other than a few pre-rendered scenes I got from Daz so I don't think thats the right place to keep them.

I'll try it again. My library doesn't seem to be segmented into poser, poses/mats etc. Everything (from Daz) seems to just be alltogether in one place regardless of what it is( poses, figures, wardrobes, materials, etc.) so theres not a clear place to put the stuff in.
