so... anybody else seeing this faceting around the iris on the genesis 8.1 basic female and male?
these are straight loads into a new scene--definitely looks NOTHING like the eye closeups shown on the 8.1 page: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-1#eyes
I've tried fiddling with the mesh resolution settings, but nothing helps.
Anyone know a solution?

I just opened up the textures for the iris in paint to check it and that octagon type faceting is actually how the texture is made. There's nothing you can do to dial it out. It's going to take an image editor to fix that.
To play devil's advocate that announcement it is on the top of a page that's selling the new the Victoria and Michael 8.1.
But I do agree that it should say somewhere on that page that those renders are of V8.1 and M8.1 and not the basic 8.1 models.
I edited it in gimp overlaying a better iris because those textures are crap
maybe meant to make you buy V8.1 and M8.1
Typically, the stock Genesis figures surfaces and even shapes are not spectacular. I don't think they're really supposed to be either. They used to just give away Victoria too, not the pro bundle, just the base figure. Kind of an advertisement for how much more amazing the figures you have to buy would be. I feel like i remember way back getting MIchael, Stephanie, and an early version of Aiko even. I've always thought of Genesis as the generic base form to start modifying shapes and textures from. Clearly if they wanted to make it great they could, just look at victoria, or any of the other DAZ originals, but in the end wouldn't that actually make it more difficult to model and texture an amazing character?
Fun fact: Stephanie was originally modeled on the male figure base before Genesis One had all figures made from the same base.
All Generations before Genesis where modelled from one base, the female model. DAZ stopped with Genesis 2 and later as it was difficult to get the male pectorals to look and move well.
Oops, that's memory playing tricks on me again, and now I think it was Stephanie whatever number that was built on the Genesis 2 male base. Maybe I'm wrong again. I guess I could look it up.
Sorry to confuse you. You were not wrong about the original Stephanie, it just doesn't seem as odd when you know that the male mesh was sculpted from the female mesh.
Not exactly. Victoria and Michael 1/2 were separate mesh, the "unimesh" concet started with M3/V3.
And Genesis 2 Male and Female are the same mesh, it's Genesis 3 which went back to different meshes.
The original Stephanie was built from Michael 2 mesh.
I always thought the previous bases were rather nice and these use some of their textures but those eyes are terrible
while one expects Victoria and Micheal to be better that is no excuse for that polygonal eye map
even Microsoft paint can draw a circle
