I need help moving my custom g8f characters to 8.1

I need help figuring out how to get my heavily morphed g8f to 8.1
I've seen posts say that I need to save my g8 character as a character preset, which would save both the shape and textures. I do that.
This is the part I don't get and where none of the posts say what to do. I've tried loading the G8.1 figure and dragging the saved preset into the viewport until I get the menu to apply the preset to 8.1, but that just loads a seperate g8 figure.
I've tried double clicking on the preset while having 8.1 selected and that also just loads the g8 preset figure.
What am I doing wrong, what am I missing here?

Go to Edit > Preferences > Content tab, and check what option is selected for "when loading a .duf character" option, my guess is that your preference is set to "always load a new figure".
You could also just save a shaping preset and a material preset, load the base G8.1 and then apply the shaping preset and material preset. That's what I do and it works fine.
I wouldn't save a material preset personally.
I'd want to at least try out the new shader with 8.1 and the V8.1 if you have the new Victoria.
Just plug the textures in the appropriate slots and change the UVs to Basic Female (iirc its name).
Yep, that's exactly what I had. I have a big problem though, I've tried the other two options and I do get the dialogue but for some reason when it's not set to "always load a new figure" Studio hangs/crashes when trying to apply the presets.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I have highly customized my Uber Shader presets and they look better than what the new PBR shader can provide in its current state of lacking scatter and transmit intensity. They added a couple new features, but took away something essential (to me).
Hilarious... nothing more! No Maps were worked over nothing... so basicly it's just the shape and the shapes are useless without the possibility to upgrade the skin textures itself. A character is a set of shapes AND textures to get an overall realistic or artistic look. Sure, we could just take the victoria skin and change the skin tone with psd or gimp, but thats not the same. Skin textures have often a ton of information in them. To port a whole figure or character one would have to create new 8.1 maps, by using the 8.0 figure, putting the maps on it, mark new seams and bake new textures... If the textures would just "stay" as they are. With real shaders from the real skins, as they were created, this would be an easy task to do... but it seams NOBODY the **** cares that sells charecters here... at least i see no updates in my DIM since i bought 8.1 victoria and michael!
There is no need to change all over G8.1, this is a pure G8F with iRay Uber...
on my desk...
Imagine this one in 8.1 with it's shading system. You would not even need to go this dark, to make it look more realistic, since the skin (and better eyes) with it's details can totally make it look less digital. Better hair, better glases and maybe some fabric detail shadings on the clothes and this would look more amazing that it looks right now. I did not try it, but i imagine the new shader can also do the trick...
I mean it looks good, don't get me wrong.
But the hair gives it away, the glasses too, the shine on skin to eyebrown also, no detail (knitting) on the clothes... You know what i mean?! But that is not the point. My point was porting the character from 8.0 to 8.1 isn't just about the shape. It's about every detail a character makes a character. And the head/neck is a problem that you cannot ignore right now... there are textures missing for it and those are also high detailed now. This is important to get even closer, which can be good to see hair on the skin itself, which also creates a more realistic overall looking. Then some fuzz on the clothes later on, maybe with SHB?! I don't know where this is going, but these details are important... In the end you would have to look twice as hard to find something that gives it away. Some are already doing it with daylight like settings. Because there is nothing to hide...
Like this. Some more details on shaders and lights applied?
Nothing from the outer world:
Zero Victoria 8.1, Zero Daz PBR Skin shader, no HD textures and no postwork, raw render as my iray viewport confirms.
The only (remotely noticeable) thing that 8.1 has over 8 is the eye movement.
@jd641 Did you solved your main issue? no answers since Feb 7
I have NGS2, and have been using it in preference to whatever was provided during G8, although I am now experimenting with V8.1 and like it.
Yeah, I have NGS2 and...well, I'll leave it at that, lol. I know some folks love it. I do a lot of custom tweaking to maps and shader settings, and I have the Uber Shader working exactly how I want it to work for what I want to do with it, and unfortunately, while Daz added some new toys with the PBR Shader, they also took away other stuff that I consider essential (to me).
I also use Michael/Victoria 8.1 material presets as a base and apply the diffuse/specular/normal maps of my custom figures.
For a better quality I use Map Transfer to convert G8 Torso maps into G8.1 Head maps. The figures with shaved hair are no longer suddenly blurred.
The water heater in our basement burst open causing a huge flood. No hot water then no water at all for two days plus a massive cleanup of boxes, items and ripping up the carpeting/paneling/etc and since we have no sump pump/shop vac, I had to stay up until 6am every day to wring out towels, dry them out and put them down to absorb the water in 20F temps during an annoying lingering snow storm. Not much time to work on any of my 3d stuff atm. :(
Ouch, priorities!, Real life matters 100%,
other things are secondary, take care.
