when launching daz on my mac i am getting the error message could not open the start up scene :
/users/**********/doucuments/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library/People/Genesis/genesis.dsf
file does not exist

I found the folder in the daz 3d folder and copied it top the mentioned location but after looking in the folder the file Genesis.dsf is not there only a file called Genesis.duf
also when trying to load a figure i am getting the error message Some assets needed to load the file were missing. the content may not work as expected the following files could not be found
/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf

It seems that i dont have any file ending in .dsf? only in .duf?
can anyone help?

Thanks

That means you had DS4 installed before 4.5 - then the user-facing files were in .dsf format. Updating DS doesn't update settings, including the start-up scene. If you want Genesis to load on start up go to Apple menu (Mac)/Edit (Win)>Preferences and change the settings in the Start up tab - either use the ... button to choose the genesis .duf file, or simply choose none to have the scene load empty (or create a scene with your own preferred lights and content and make that the auto-load file).

I have changed the preferences startup as mentioned but am still getting the same error message about the dsf file?the preferences startup path does go the duf file but this hasn't solved the issue also when trying to load figures still getting the message about dsf files missing
is there a way to clear this by uninstalling I did this last time but there must be some files i have missed?
    Thanks again for your help

The startup file is actually the .duf? Is Genesis loading directly from the library without error?

yes the startup path is to the .duf but is still asking for the .dsf file i did have the previous version of daz studio installed when i uninstalled is there a chance some files were left and this is causing the issue? if so would the best course of action to try to uninstall again? and how can i be sure i have not missed any files?

As I feared it's looking for the data files, not the user file you are loading - that should have been installed by Genesis Starter Essentials and should be in the My Library folder \Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base. If it isn't, to where did you install the Starter Essentials, and do you have that folder (the one you installed to, not the one with .dsf file itself) selected as a DAZ Studio content directory?

It's the \Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base folder I am asking about. Assuming it's in the Data folder in your screenshot, is that My Library folder set as a DAZ Studio content directory in DS? Does it appear immediately under DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library pane?

So, does \Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis\Base\Genesis.dsf exist? If not, reinstall Genesis Starter Essentials to the My Library folder (or if you are using the DAZ Install Manager add the My DAZ 3D Library folder in your public documents folder under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Fomrats - right-click on each heading and choose the Add ... Directory command from the menu).

The .dsf file is called on by the .duf file - that's why the path in the error message is different from the path to the file you are loading. That's why we are asking where the /Data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf file is on your system, and whether the folder that contains the Data folder is selected as a DAZ Studio Format content directory.

ok after searching i have found the folder which contains the .dsf files( /Data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Genesis.dsf file) see attached pic!! seems it is located in my shared folder? and the DAZ Studio Format content directory does not point to this folder
so the question is are these file used by daz 4.5 i understand .duf files are used but i could be wrong and what should i do next as i have this and the installed folder which contains the .duf files. do i need both?
    Again thanks for your help!!!

Open the Content Library pane, right-click on DAZ Studio Formats (control-click with a 1-button mouse) and select Add new Base Directory. In the dialogue that opens select the /Shared/My DAZ 3D Library folder. This is the default content location for the DAZ Install Manager - there are good reasons to keep it separate from the folder for non-DIM installs.
