Have you actually bought the tool, or are you just thinking about it?

If you bought it, then have you read the included documentation?

Basically it allows you to use an HDRI image as the backdrop to your scene, but make your characters appear to interact with that background, e.g. stand behind a pillar or a tree, or be partially submerged in water. Take a good look at the promo images, which show how various effects can be achieved.

It might be worth reading the Commercial Forum thread too - here it is:

I'm guessing that the PA who made the product, KindredArts, keeps an eye on that thread, so if you have bought the product and have any specific questions that might be a good place to ask them.

ETA: If you don't have a collection of HDRI's that you can use in this way, the Commercial thread also has a link to an external site where you can find a large collection of free HDRI's, which are worth a look.

  • Hello, thank you for your response.  yes i did buy the file, i didn't find any documentation inside, and the chat queue you gave me doesn't have any help or tutorial but only thanks, that's  for her that I have created a new subject

I have my HDRI backgrounds, but now in the Daz software there is a special tab for the toolkit?  where I have to do everything manually?  sorry I'm a newbie on DAZ I've already experimented a bit with HDRI by default so there you go

OK, I've just fired up my other PC to try this myself.

First things first. In Smart Content you can find the documentation under the category Utilities - Scripts (it's called "IHTK Documentation) - ah, I discovered you need to un-check "Filter By Context" to see it. I keep a shortcut on my desktop to documentation from products I've bought to locate it more quickly.

So, load up the HDRI environment you want to use.  I'm posting a picture of one I like. It's got a road and drawbridge running over a castle moat.

I'm going to add a character hanging by his hands from the edge of the road (I'm giving him a plain grey texture do I don't need to bother with clothes right now). So I load him, then pose him so he seems to be hanging by his hands and move him to where he would be on that road. (I use Iray Preview mode for my viewport to do this.) My second picture shows him there, but his entire body is visible because he isn't "inside" the HDRI.

Next I add an Occluder to block out the parts of the figure that would be hidden by the road. This is the IHTK Plant Occluder found in Smart Content under Props - Effects. I've sized it to obscure his body leaving just his hands and the top part of his head showing and move it into the right place. My third picture shows the figure and the occluder in smooth shaded mode so you can see what I've done.

I then go back to Iray Preview mode and there's the scene I wanted in the fourth picture.

Note: This isn't a perfect scene, I just did it quickly for the purpose of demonstration. I wish I'd done a more close-up version, but I don't have time right now to go back and redo. I hope you get the idea though.

You're welcome - I'm back (after my dinner) now for the rest of the evening here in the UK (i.e. about 3 or 4 hours)
