How to make handheld props fit the hand?

I was working on a scene where the female was supposed to be holding a glass and I have the glass as a prop.

I tried to place the glass in her hand by just moving it into place, but once it is in the correct place, the hand and the glass both become kind of translucent, I'm not sure what I am supposed to do.

Is there a way of having props such as glasses automatically conform to the hand so the character appears to be holding it?

Anything with a transparency map, in this case the glass, will cause the preview to show strange transparency or translucence. You can change your preview to wireframe to see exactly where the glass is in relation to the hand.

  • If the glass doesn't come with poses/wearables to work with the figure you are using then you are going to have to do it manually. Soemtimes parenting the glass to the hand with Parent in Place off can help, as it places the glass at the hand's centre point and rotated to match the hand orientation (right-click on the glass>Change Parent, uncheck the Parent In Place box at the bottom of the dialogue and select the hand). If you are using the Viewport tools to position the glass then going to Tool Settings and setting the Coordinate System to Local should make the arrows point up through the glass, and out from the base, which may be easier to control.

Transparent objects can be tricky - one option is to go into the Surfaces pane with the glass selected and in the Editor tab set the Opacity (or Cutout Opacity, depending on the shader) to 0 while posing, then restore the original value when done.

You definitely don't want anything but gloves "to conform to the hand" what you want is hand to conform to the glass.

But it is not entirely clear what is your problem all you need to do is to find a suitable hand pose or create it yourself then parent the glass to the hand.

if you want this hand to retain that pose while you are applying other poses to the whole character just lock all hand bone rotations
