Some heroes do good deeds because their conscience won't let them do otherwise. Others protect the innocent because if they don't nobody else will. But some... well, some do it because they're paid to do it, and sometimes not even then. The Renegade Adventurer is just such an individual, ready to drop everything and hightail it out of there to save his own skin!
