Is the newest Version of Daz Studio Working or not?

I have read so many nightmare stories about the latest version of Daz not working that I have not upgraded.  I wish now that I had snagged the version prior to the 8.1 update, but hindsight is 20/20.  It would be helpful if there was a place to keep up on how the fixes are coming.  I cannot afford to upgrade to a new version and be unable to do my work so I am in a bit of a quandry now.

Any information on the status of the current version will be appreciated.  Thank you.

It's been working fine for me.

  • Why don't you try to install a beta release of 4.15 through DIM?

It's completely independent of your current version, and you can see is it working for you or not.

Honestly I don't recall ever having issues with new D|S versions. It's always been fairly solid as far as I can recall. So kudos to the developers.

That said, I've had 4.15 installed for a couple of weeks and have used it regularly. And it's fairly likely that once each session it will suddenly crash, I think while I'm manipulating stuff in the scene. Though I haven't narrowed it down to specifics. Maybe during Iray preview when I'm manipulating stuff? Not sure. When I get a chance I need to mess around with NVIDIA drivers and such I suppose.

Anyway, I guess I recommend saving early and often.

I did update, and it does work rather well. Not seeing too many issues compared to 4.12. The only thing that sometimes is a bit anoying is the opacity / transparency bug with 4.15. Yes, 4.15 is crashing every once in a while, but so did 4.12. I would second the "Save early, save often" statement.

Mark how often does 4.15 crash for you? I have been using 4.12 since it was released crashing  was far and few between I can only remember 3- 4 times. When it has crashed it was because I was moving an object around too much or adding things, changing clothes, posing over and over on the same figues that it may have just blown DS mind. If crashes are minimal then I may move up.

    Thanks

Moving things around or posing figures while in Iray previews has crashed DS for me. But that was in 4.12 I haven't updated to 4.15 yet.

Same experiences about crashing and having trouble understanding all the talk about DS crashing often...

At least once or twice a day. Most likely during dForce simulations. Sometimes it just "locks" and I have to kill it. I am running on a Mac, though. Crash frequency is about as high as with 4.12.

Just backup your Daz studio *zip file/install folder and update, if you don't like it, simply reinstall the old version...

*Zip file to the program is located in the DIM downloads folder...

  • Thank you all for your feedback and great suggestions.  I really appreciate them!

I often experience some long random delays when doing something - e.g. I was just working with some lip morph dials and that worked OK, then after moving another lip dial it suddenly went into non-responding mode for about 3 minutes.  I don't recall having those delays with earlier versions.
