Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

I can't believe I never knew this. Or maybe I did and forgot? Wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, you can assign custom keyboard shortcuts to stuff you do all the time. Like I'm always expanding and collapsing the object tree in the Scene tab. So I assigned the keys "C" for collapse and "E" for expand. Now it's easy. And I'm always Aligning stuff to move an object to a different object's location. And it's a bunch of steps. So next I'm gonna assign a keyboard shortcut.

To do it, go to Window/Workspace/Customize, and it shows you a list of 1.76 gazillion different actions you can do in D|S. So in my case you scroll down to "Scene View", expand that and the first item is "Collapse All". So I right click, select "Change Keyboard Shortcut", and enter "C".

Cool.

  • F3 works too by the way, much easier ;)

But you're right, and it gets even better IMO because that same window also allows you to customize just about everything else. Do you enjoy working with activities? Then you can add some more. Do you dislike them? Then remove 'm all. Same applies to toolbars (which is my personal favorite): you can add (or remove) just about everything you want. Because I use DS somewhat casually I heavily rely on toolbars to give me access to all the options I need/want (like adding cameras, lights, groups (for which I now use the control-g shortcut), but also saving sets or character presets).

And best of all: export your (individual?) settings or save the whole lot as a new layout using F4 (windows -> workspace -> save layout as...), that will also allow you to use all your customizations on other comptuers as well (not to mention provide a good backup in the unlucky event that a DS upgrade goes bonkers).

DS is a ridiculous extensive piece of software considering that you can grab it fully free of charge.

Anyone know of a way to set the default values for the Align? It defaults to the somewhat useless "No change", but I'd like to have it default to Centers or something.

  • I'm not aware of a way to pre-set it, I would assume No Action is the default for safety.

Thanks. I'm doing a script to perform this alignment using the DAZ Studio sample script, but apparently something has changed and it's not doing the Align function. Details in the Scripting forum...

I was tryingto make shortcut for saved last draw but it's not found under action/file, when not found under action then there will be no way to make a short cut to the action in question?

Not sure what you mean with "last draw" but you'll be able to find save options both under "File" (one option) and the rest is located under the "Save Filters" section.

The "Save Last Draw" action is in the "Drawing" group...

    Thank you Stefan!

  • while I have customised much of my workspace including replacing WASD EQ with up down left right arrows and +- (not that I use that feature anyway)

I cannot replace the damned viewport controls which also affect the camera, the main one being mouse scroll which I want to replace dolly zoom with just camera focal length so the damned thing doesn't flip along all axis animated
