How to copy all body part transforms to another figure at once?

When I create a character, I use the X,Y,Z scales in the transform on many body parts.
I also copy this character's parameters to other models.
However, there are many body parts to be copied, so it is quite cumbersome and often makes mistakes.
How can I copy all body part transforms to another figure at once?

  • Since scales are part of the poses, with the character selected, select menu>save as>pose preset, and then tick on the scales on the body parts you want to save (unchecked nodes are not overwritten when loading). Then you can select another character and load that save from content library tab>daz studio formats>presets>poses by double clicking (assuming you didn't save to a different location).

There's also a save as>properties preset if you want other types of properties.

  • Although I'm not 100% sure here my suggestion would be to look into morphs.. Creating a morph which contains all your changes would be an easy way to save your customization and then apply it onto others. Unfortunately the only way to make a morph that I know is to use an external 3D editor to physically change your figure.

Alas, the idea puzzled me so I did some digging of my own into the documentation and it would seem that you're looking for shaping and setting up shaping presets. See this wiki article I found here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/chapters/shaping/start

This seems to reflect your situation; guess I was both right and wrong at the same time ;)  While morphs are indeed methods to change the physical appearance of a figure / mesh, shaping is the method of applying one (or more) morphs to a figure and then optionally saving all of that, which gets you a shape preset. See also the "Save as.." section in the file menu.

Interesting question IMO!  I actually learned something new here. Oh, right: at first it seems as if there's a full overlap between properties when looking at the 'Shaping' pane and the 'Parameters' pane. Don't get fooled like I did at first; both panes serve different purposes.

    Hope this can help!

Oh, there was such an easy way!!!
Following your advice, the problem was solved really easily.
I will be able to save a lot of work time.
    Thank you so much naughtyroad!

One trouble with making character shapes by scaling various body parts is that a premade pose that you may want to use will often reset those scales back to default or whatever adjustment whoever made the pose wanted to use.  It really is much better to make a morph, and you like the shapes you're coming up with the way you're doing it now, then you really don't need an outside modeling program.

Simply change the subD of your character to 0 in the properties pane, delete the eyelash prop, and export an obj.  I suggest a folder called my morphs or whatever you want.  Then you can load up a new compatible default figure and load you morph.  You may need to adjust rigging to shape, under the edit/figure/rigging menu, and I always seem to forget the ERC freeze.  Way over simplified directions probably and it's a safe bet I'm forgetting something.

There's plenty of detailed info on how to do all of this on other forum posts, but everyone always focuses on exporting a default shaped figure and modeling in other software.  Obviously modeling software can give you virtually unlimited options with regard to how to shape a character, but if you're just trying to give someone longer arms, smaller breasts, or any other shape you can come up with right inside DAZ, you don't have to mess with another program at all.  It's simple and if you've already got the shapes dialed in DAZ it'll take five minutes.

yep, a common issue when scaling Pectoral Bones to some Y/Z vector and lost value on parameter applying a prepaid pose.
