Background Image on Plane Primative doesn’t render
![Scavenger](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/553/n8D1EE0EE9DE4.jpg)
I've set up a primative plane, and put a jpg on it.
It shows up fine in the set up view, but when I render, it doesn't show up, instead the stuff behind it is there.
I have no idea what settings I'm doing wrong.. anyone help? :(
(picture is a screenshot from spot render...happens with a full render, too)

What shader are you using? DAZ default, or something else? Is it possible there is an opacity map hiding out somewhere? The hole really should be visible in preview as well as the render if there is a stray opacity map, but I'm trying to rule things out.
Can you do a screen shot of the surfaces tab with the plane selected?
I'm 90% sure I didn't do any weird shading (at least nothing intentional).
I created a primative, got it to the size, put the picture on it, placed it (the brick wall is a different pic than what I want just in case there was a problem with that, and the brick wall is more obvious).
Here's the settings...
I put in another plane. It renders.
Here are the settings...the only difference I see is the "Ambient Color" being white, not black.. I changed that, but it didn't change anything :(
It's not just the Ambient Color, it's also the Ambient Strength. The Ambient is used to fake a glow effect: if you don't want it (which is probably most of the time) it should always be set to black/0%.
Similar thing with Glossiness/Specular Color/Specular Strength. If you don't want something shiny, with a gloss shine effect drowning out the diffuse colour, turn these off.
Can't work out why you were getting the see-through effect, though; everything else looks OK.

Oh right..I didn't change the ambient! the actual jpg is a render of the scene without any characters, so that when I load them and do lighting and so on the program doesn't render all the distant objects and just uses the backdrop, and when I loaded it, it was too dark, so I used ambient to fix.
I just played with lots of different settings, and nothing changed with the render, though.
Yeah, I don't see anything out of place on your surfaces either. Thanks for posting them.
Have you tried deleting the primitive and reloading another one?
Well not deleting, but adding another, as chronicled above.
It's really now a matter of figuring out the why it happened to avoid in the future, rather than solving for now.
I have this in a thread in the New User forum, but I'm posting here for maybe more technical minds to see.

I found a work around, in that I made a second plane, and that works as it's supposed to. The settings between the two are the same. No changes I made to the first one changed things.
Despite getting past the problem and moving on with the composition, I'd like to figure out what happeend.
There are full screenshots of settings for both in the other thread.
(attached screen shot: Snap Render---brick wall is the first "broken" plane. the box forming with the blue is the snap render area showing the brick wall not rendering, the background behind it, and the 2nd plane rendering.)
Please don't start duplicate threads. if you wish we can move this thread to another forum.
Oh, sorry.
Then could this thread be moved to the tech support forum
OK, moved to DAZ Studio Discussion.
What format is the image in?
