Sun-sky and scene?

Why is there no environment mode - Sun-sky and scene?

Is it really so difficult to add such a mode to the drop-down list? If you think that this is technically impossible, then I will tell you that it is possible. In Dome and scene mode, select"none" instead of the HDRI map. This will make Sun-sky work, but the spotlights and pointlights will continue to work. This means that iray is already able to process light simultaneously from the Sun-sky system and light sources inside the scene. But the problem is that it can't be saved as a render preset. The default HDRI card will appear again at startup. And you will have to do this procedure over and over again.

I thought there was: it's called Dome & Scene. If you don't put an HDR in the Environment Map then you get the Sun - Sky & the Scene when you choose Dome & Scene.

Yes, that is how you do it.

Even in Dome and Scene mode with Draw Dome off you still can emulate the sun by adding  a distant light

    nihil novum sub sole

the magic is when you create a diffuse HDRI from your Sun Sky environment  in iray preview cool

Okay, that's what I said myself. How do I save this as a render preset? Before you answer here. Try to do it yourself. Hint: You can't turn off the HDRI map and save it as a render preset. An empty HDRI map cell in the settings is perceived as a default HDRI map

You can always change the name of the default HDRI map so Daz can't locate it. My test shows daz starts and renders in your desired Sun-Sky-Scene render preset with no map in the image slot. I would imagine that if you upgrade studio and/or daz starter essentials the default map will be re-installed so you would have to do it again. Also, the Beta and public versions do not share the same resources so if you use the Beta you need to rename that one as well.

Yes, I did that trick. But there is one problem. If I do a batch render. You will see an error about the missing file. And the render won't start until I hit the "ok"button. This means that I can't go to sleep during batch rendering. I need to sit at the computer and close the error window after each loaded scene. Any other ideas?

Strange. I've just batch rendered 8 images with the Ruins HDRI renamed, and 4.15 general release rendered them all no problem without a single call out error for the missing file.

    That's a new bug since 4.15

AFAIK it is a bug with DS when loading scenes-  but render presets work as expected. You can save them without an image in the environment map slot and the ruins hdr won't be added

I usually end up fully deleting the ruins hdr when I remember after an update, because I never use it and don't like how it looks, and have never had ds whine at me about it.

.... but you can definitely save render presets without an environment map and ruins hdr wont load
