8.1 Gens and Skin shader

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but I scrolled through a dozen pages looking so I'm just going to ask...

The new 8.1 characters come with gens for the opposite sex. So I'm curious, I want to mess around with that a little. But I can't get the characters skin to apply to the Gens. It's just silver. I select the character and apply "All Maps" no dice. I select the character and apply the characters gen maps. Nothing. I select the gens and try both those options again, no go. Can anyone give me a nudge here?

P.S. the character skin I'm trying to apply is from a regular Gen 8. Is that my problem? The skin applies to the 8.1 so I figured it would apply to the Gens too. Is there a rule of thumb on that? Does it only work with 8.1 character maps?

Thanks for any help

Might be a stupid question, but does the skin you're using actually come with gens map?

Yes it does. It's Aubry (Aubrey?)

The character needs to have a texture made for that use.

For example, Victoria 8.1 comes with textures for the 8.1 male gens for females, and Michael 8.1 comes with textures for the 8.1 female gens for males. The default UV for male gens and female gens is different. Any male gens texture should apply correctly to the male-for-female gens, and vice versa. Aubrey doesn't have textures made for the 8.1 M-F gens, so it won't work. (I have Aubrey, so I tried it out to see how things worked -- or didn't, as in this case.)

Yeah that makes sense. It's not just skin, there are other shades there :P Okay, I'm all set. Thanks for the info :)
