Studio 4.15 and PwToon

So, put simply...PwToon no longer works in Daz Studio 4.15. The PwToon product page - which is presumably 'auto-updated' lists Daz Studio 4.15 as 'compatible', but that's a flat-out lie. The entire program seems setup to force iRay surfaces ONLY. Given that up until I 'upgraded' DS to use the new Genesis 8.1 figure it was working just fine - I'm always slow to adopt the latest version - I am now seriously regretting doing so. Basically, a product I purchased - and used quite a lot - has now been rendered completely inactive due to a forced move away from more stylised renders.

If anyone knows a way to actually get it working - and thus allowing me to use the toon/anime-style characters I'd set up using the PwToon shaders - I will be very grateful. But for the moment, I am not a happy bunny. :(

How did you install? pwToon needs files placed in the application folder. It is working for me in the current General release, as witness thew attached (boring) image.

While new content is frequently Iray-only, if you have the render engines et to 3Delight then newly created/imported objects will have the 3Delight Daz Default Shader applied.

  • I haven't changed my library, only my Studio version. So the install should be in the right place.

From what you're saying, Richard, I should switch the render engine to 3Delight in the 'Render' tab BEFORE loading anything into the scene. Would that be right? If so, I'll give it a try when I next can - busy with work this week. :)

However, even if that does work, how does it affect previously saved scenes? Because if I load those, the shaders aren't loading properly either, even though they SHOULD be saved properly on the figures/objects... :/

The shader and the render engine are two different beasts, which may or may not play well together. After you reload your old scene, make sure the Render Engine is properly set to 3DL.

What Richard says applies to NEW objects like primitives or third-party files (which have no DAZ Studio shaders assigned to start) would get the default shader for the current render engine (DAZ Studio Default for 3DL, or Iray UBER for Iray). Previously applied shaders should not be affected.

  • Cheers for the help guys. Have managed to get it working - had to uninstall and reinstall pwToon before it behaved, which was annoying. But it SEEMS to be working again...so far. :)
