Daz Studio 4.15 32 Bit install

Hi team, I curently have DS4.14 64 Bit installed on my Mac but want to do some lip synch on characters so have downloaded and unzipped DAZStudio_4.15.0.2_Mac32.zip from my product library as I believe this has the lip synch facility built in. However, and just to make sure before I install it, can anyone confirm this will not overwrite my 64 Bit version?

Many thanks

Apologies guys, I have figured this out and installed Ds 32 bit. However, I have another problem if you would indulge me. When opening I seem to be able to load base figures, characters and some scenes I have created in DS 4.14 64 bit, but not the very one I want! A static scene I used as a starting point for an animation scene. Is there a special way to save a scene in 64 bit so I can open it in 32 bit? If it's relevant I get a message while loading the scene Cannot find the file resources/dthdr-ruinsb-500.hdr and then the spinny wheel for a while and then a crash

    Thanks

  • 32 bit DS does not have Iray, that is the map applied by default to the Environment for Iray render settings - try saving with the render Engine set to 3Delight.

I can't help out much, but this is going to be an interesting experiment. 32bit software is limited to 4GB of addressable space as far as I'm aware. So you are going to meet a few challenges.

Just out of curiosity, are you running a 32 bit OS also, or just running 32 bit software on a 64 bit OS?

  • Thanks Richard, good to know as my intention is to create animation in my 64 bit and do the round trip to 32 bit and back for lip sinc. I hope!

IceCrMn, that may be why I'm getting crashes, I'll look out for that....and the challenges! My OS I think is 64 bit, I had all of the hardware upgraded recently to the following so I assume it is frown

    Processor Name:    6-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:    3,33 GHz
      Number of Processors:    2
      Total Number of Cores:    12
L2 Cache (per Core):    256 KB
L3 Cache (per Processor):    12 MB
      Hyper-Threading Technology:    Enabled
      Memory:    64 GB

    Using 2 2TB SSDs

32 bit software can run on 64 bit OS's fine.Alot of software is still 32bit.

I'm not sure what's causing the crashes. Like Richard posted, some features require 64bit and iray to function.

3Delight is still maintained though, so it should work for you.You may have to convert some shaders ( not hard) and setup some lighting. This is the hard part.I've heard it takes 3 things to make a good scene.Lighting, lighting and lighting

Anyway, good luck, and I'll be watching with interest to see how it goes.

Thank you, no doubt I'll be back with a few more questions!

  • Which version of the MacOS? I woulda ssume you'd have had an error message if there was a problem, but my recollection is that the most recent MacOS builds are strictly 64 bit only.

  • Hi Richard, I have Mojave 10.14.6, I have an old 2010 Mac Pro tower so I could upgrade with cherry picked hardware, it is 64 bit. Things I have deduced thus far.

32 bit does not like characters created in 64 bit, the cause of most of my crashes I think. So I created characters within 32 bit, applied lip sync, saved static characters and animation. Observation: 32 bit does not play back very well but progressed anyway. Also, applying further poses is slow to respond and does not hold the pose created after the frame it is applied to, but reverts to original, so left only the lip sync to transfer.

Opened 64 bit, static characters in their start poses and applied saved animation, opened no problem. Then added further poses to timeline. Observations: 64 bit plays back seamlessly and adding more poses much easier. Downside, the audio did not play so in this instance I'm going to render the animation and add the audio file in post on my editing software. Not sure why the audio did not save, something I will look into.

  • DS doesn't play audio once the LipSync is done, you need to render to an Image Sequence and put everything together in the editor.

  • Ah, thank you, that will save me a lot of time investigating!
