Can we have a Zbrush Disscusion group at the 3rd Party Software section on forum?

There are so many posts Zbrush related that get lost in the common section and are difficult to find back with the search function.

Why is there no group created for Zbrush at the 3rd party section is there a special reason for or just forgotten?

  • Are there really that many posts?

I got lucky and picked up a ZBrush license last year and for me it's one of the best 3D editors there is. My idea from the getgo was to use it as an enhancement for Daz Studio (which is another (obvious?) favorite of mine) and from that point on I also started scoping for ZBrush related posts in here. I never saw that many to be honest.

Sure: I saw ZBrush getting mentioned within threads, but those threads were usually about something else. But whole actual threads about ZBrush in combo with Daz Studio? Honestly, not that many in my opinion, hardly enough to justify a whole new forum. Do note: I can't rule out the option that I overlooked stuff, but all in all...

But that's just me trying to remain unbiased. Having that out of the way I do agree that a ZBrush forum would be awesome, I'd definitely participate in that. As mentioned above: IMO ZBrush is an awesome addition to Daz Studio; last weekend I managed to get my first (untextured!) props into Daz Studio (a very crude flashlight) and there will be many more props (and maybe even models) coming next!  Huge fan here!

    Wouldn't mind a zbrush section.

I'm curious, what do people use Zbrush for relative to DAZ Studio? I recall it's pretty much just for sculpting, not hard surface modelling-type stuff. So do people use it to make sculpty character morphs?

Personally, I do most of my initial modelling in blender, then take it into zbrush for final refinements and surface details. You can do hard surface modelling in ZB, but I am used to blender more, so stick with that.

As I look for alterntaives to my modeling program which is no longer supported, ZBrush is one of the programs I am putting some time and effort in.  Wow, such a great companion for Daz Studio resources.

    - sculpty character morphs?  sure, OK

    - custom figures?  Yup, with a low res version and maps for displacement etc

    - joint corrective morphs for clothing and other assets destined for Daz figures in Studio

    - I am slowly getting used to the hard surface modeler within ZBrush and am finding it surprisingly powerful.  Admit I had low expectations.

    - extract mesh, retopo, and then edit to create clothing etc for daz figures

Each of those functions could be done in another program, so the standard 'horses for courses' comment applies.

  •  There is this old one from Novica's  Art studio thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/47114/zbrush-for-beginners-notes-and-assistance/p1

If a new one is started i'd be there for sure.

Diomede, does Zbrush have a hard surface modeller? I recall long ago when I tried it you couldn't add like cubes and stuff and you couldn't edit faces and vertices, only sculpting. Although that was a long time ago and my memory could be messing with me....

Yes, there is a modeler with the basic functions of a typical vertex/edge/polygon modeler.  Extrude to your hearts content.  Accessing it seems a little quirky to me, but as I get familar with it, I am finding it quite powerful.  Remember, you can use the sculpting tools to rough out a shape, and the retopo tools to get the initial mesh with some guides for edge loops, and then start polygon modeling from there.  I doubt anyone would abandon a dedicated polygon modeler for the ZBrush hard surface modeler, though.  I wouldn't go to ZBrush just for the hard surface modeler.  More like, if using ZBrush for other stuff, - hey look, they've added a this useful modeler.

Here is the first of several intro videos to the ZModeler polygonal modeler by Pixelogic.  Start with this one.  Or, you can find plenty of 3rd party videos by ZBrush fans on youtube, etc.
