Freeze the end of a ponytail in place while turning character's head?

More for the sake of learning than anything, is there a good way to freeze the end of a ponytail in place after posing it so that turning the figures head/neck does not cause it to move?  This would be useful if I have the tail draped over a shoulder and want to reposition the head without doing a lot of reposing of the tail.

I was wondering an IK chain could be used for something like this?  I've never used one before so I wanted to ask before heading down that path.

  • Have you tried selecting that part and pinning it?

Do you mean with the active pose tool?  That's the only way I know how to pin things, and unless I am missing your point, that won't work per the scenario I described.

Yes indeed, but if that doesn't work, can't help, sorry.

I am not sure if it will work with a part of a figure (end of ponytail), but mccasual has several scripts which help to define the relative position of two objects.
Go to his site, look through the elaborated descriptions. Maybe there is the solution for your problem.
