Why is this happening? How do I see what is there?

Hi. I have had this happen with a few models but I never knew how to resolve the problem. I just bought this model here called "Messy Apartment". When I load it up I get two choices. A preload and a final render ready. Either one of these, when I click on them to load the scene it comes back all black and you can't see anything. Total darkness. So how am I gonna work in darkness? I tried to use the Iray alternate view and my pooter eventually froze up and after what seemed like forever I had to hit the power button on my pooter to shut it down. The restart took a long time too. Now, I know there has got to be a way to see what is there but I don't know how to go about doing that. So, until I get some help lighting up the scene, I can not use the model. Can some one please tell me how to get lights on these models that load totally dark? Here is a quick render of what the room looks like (rendered with the viewport render engine, NOT Iray.)

By default, DS turns off preview lighting once any actual "light" object is in the scene (although not HDRIs or emmissive surfaces) - something that many preload sets will add.

Use Ctrl+L to turn them back on.

I got this with a set when even Ctr+L did not help. It was because the cameras created with the set all had headlamp intensity set to 0, which is used to determine preview brightness even if the headlamp is switched off. Either fix this, or create a new camera to look through.

Preview Lights is on by default. Without any real lights loaded DS will, by default, use a headlamp shinging from just beside the camera; if you do have lights loaded and turn Preview Lights off then you will get a similar effect, a lamp shining from the camera, but it isn't the same as the headlamp and the chnage on loading lights has nothing to do with turning Preiew Lights on then.

OK...The problem is with the two cameras that are included and load with the scene. I created a new camera and selected it and now there is plenty of light. I checked the two included and the headlamp mode is turned off. I turned them on and now they are working fine. Thanks to Havo for the suggestion. It fixed the problem. Now...maybe someone can contact the author of this set so he can fix this before too many people buy it and are disappointed because they can't see anything. Some will ask Daz for a refund. That will not be good for Daz. Let them know so they can turn them on to fix this.

  • Headlamp off doesn't seem like a bug. If you want to see what you are doing while setting the scene up, turn Preview Lights off as discussed above.
