Error message when applying clothing assets: "The following files could not be found"
Hello,
First, apologies if I'm asking a frequently-asked question but I've been searching around and have not been able to locate an answer. After verifying paths, the only issue I can think of is a possible lower-vs-mixed case issue.
I am (very) new to Daz but have been working with computers for a while (i.e., programming and also have used various multimedia apps, etc.).
I'm using a Mac (Mojave 10.14.6) and Daz Studio Version 4.15.
I installed content purchased on Renderosity into:
/Users/myname/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/
I open Daz and begin loading a model; I'm following the instructions that come with the model.
The first step is to install the "Simulation Settings". I do so by dragging the icon in the library to the stage and there are no "complaints".
The instructions next indicate to load the Genesis 8 model, create a particular end frame number (e.g., 41) and select an end pose.
All good up to this point; I run the time line and the model moves to the pose.
However, when I try to add clothing assets, I get an error message that "The following files could not be found".
I am trying to load the clothing assets from the tab "Content Library" which is peered in the vertical menu on the left along with the tabs "Install", "Smart Content", "Draw Settings", etc.
The model in question is "Midnight Light Dancer". The path in the left hand menu is:
Daz Studio Formats
My Libary
Midnight Light Dancer
People
Genesis 8 Female
Clothing
Midnight Light Dancer
Materials
Thumbnail images appear in two directories:
Selecting the directory "Midnight Light Dancer" directly below "Clothing" gives a (correct) list of greyscale images of the assets and after selecting the "Materials" one level down inside the "Midnight Light Dancer" directory are the (expected) color images of the assets. See uploaded images.
So Daz is clearly finding something.
However, if I control-click the color images for an asset and select "Merge into Scene" I get the mentioned error message and paths to the data/ and runtime/textures/ folders. If I control-click on the greyscale images one level up I get the same error message but with paths only to data/.
I've checked the paths in the error messages and I can find all the assets mentioned but there's one odd thing...the paths in the error messages are all lower-case while some of the folders and assets are mixed-case.
Notably, perhaps, after the error message from trying to load the using the greyscale icons under "Midnight Light Dancer", Daz does put a "blocky" greyscale element which ostensibly would go where the specific clothing would be applied to the model, so Daz knows where the clothing would be put on the model (i.e., the block is in the right location but it's made of cubic rectangles -- see image).
The fact that Daz does accept the simulation settings also seems notable - those paths are working for Daz.
Is Daz expecting lowercase filenames? Is there a setting where one can tell Daz to ignore case? I couldn't find anything.
Any and all help is appreciated - thanks in advance!
All the best,
iw

The Midnight Light Dancer folder shouldn't be there by the look of it - in particular the Runtime and Data folders need to be in the actual content directory, My Library in your case, not a sub-folder. Setting this on a mac can be tricky as by default it will repalce the existing folders with the new ones if you just drag-and-drop - there are ways around that, but if you don't know them you are going to have to carefully move the folders out of /Midnight Light Dancer/Data and /Midnight Light Dancer/Runtime/ into the matching place in the root folder.
Hi RIchard!
Thank you for your prompt reply (and apologies for my late response) - that helped a great deal; I've been able to resolve some/most of the issues. There are still some hiccups when applying some of the materials but I'm working on it.
I appreciate your help!
Best regards,
iw
