Distortion After Parenting

So I have a non-rigged object of clothing, and when I parent it to a rigged G3 it distorts. I initially thought that maybe that was due to having a smoothing modifier and collision set on the clothing, but that doesn't seem to matter. Weird. And when I un-parent the clothing it returns to its correct shape. 

Anyone know what that's all about?

    Good point. Actually after some more investigation it looks like it's translating the cloth object, not distorting it. So maybe in the parenting process the child/cloth object gets some translation info from the parent? I'm parenting by just drag/dropping the cloth object onto the G3 character, and usually that does a "parent in place" right? 

    So I tried selecting the cloth object and "Change parent..." to the G3, and I made sure I checked "parent in place", but the same translation happens. Weird.

  • Have you changed the Scale of one of the objects?
