I just rendered in DS 4.6 and went to post my render but the background color was missing!! I then opened the pic with Gimp and quickly discovered the background was a transparency:ohh:!?! Has Daz done something like an update that removes the background color? Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me? :long:

.png and .tiff store the alpha channel in renders - in most image editors/viewers you can choose to treat that as transparency or simply to load it as a mask but have the background showing.

I understand this, but it has never done that before today. This is completely new so that's why I was wondering if there was an update I had missed or something. Also, when I go to the render editor I can see the background color/backdrop I used in the render. It kinda freaked me out at first lol. I really don't mind it, just going to take a bit to get used to :-)

Had you previously been saving as .jpg or .bmp?

Nope, all my saves have been in .png format since i started using DS back in March. It's actually kinda cool because I can pretty much just overlay my renders onto another background or scene with ease :)

PNG has always given me a transparent background which was great so I could just put the image over any background easily in an image editor. I am not entirely sure how you did not have transparency on your images if saved in PNG format.

As I recall, if you render using the OpenGL renderer instead of 3Delight, then the background will show even if you save as a .png. This would have happened if you set the quality slider in the Render Settings pane to anything less than 4.

(Not that I'm recommending you do this...for most uses, 3Delight is a superior render engine)
