Thank you so much! When you say it has a shader - you know this because it has that sparkly texture? I'm still trying to understand shaders :)

I think it's shaders because the texture add-on doesn't seem to have that purple color, that's shown in the first pic. It is possible that one of the item's material zones was selected and a shader preset was applied to it to change its color. I don't know much about shaders (to make my own), but I know it's a quick way to change the look of any given item for variety. Here is an example with a freebie fabric shader from ShareCG by AllenArt, called "Shimmery Sheer Fabrics II" for Iray. 

Please note that not all clothing can be changed like this. It depends on how the creator made its material zones.

I see... I usually use textures from other outfits and go to surfaces to change them. For example use the gold metal of an armor to make a basic top armored (if that makes sense). I didn't know shaders did that tho I saw some fabric ones before :)
