Trying to create custom tattoos on the textures, they all end up red?

Anyone know the correct way to add tattoos to a texture of a character? I am just going brute force and attempting to add them to the texture and then replacing it, but the colours come up off. Black is red, for examples. Makes the tattoos look like they were applied with lipstick, haha. Not the desired effect.

Is there an easy way to do this?

My skill is limited :(

You might have to edit or replace the Translucency materials file. Usually, if you only add the tattoo to the Base/Diffuse slot but don't do anything with the Translucency slot, it'll look red.

as texture artist the best result if you make in photoshop, or painter, or mari, and you just load into daz. :D

i know, lot of artist use lie tatto, but they are almost never realistic, if you just put it onto it (like in real life, the tattoo is a bit under your skin)

  • Somewhere to start. Thanks for the leads! I'll see what I can do with this in mind

I always build tattoos directly into the texture in Photoshop. You'll want to add to the color map and the translucency/sss map. I would also recommend slightly blurring and adding a bit of transparency to the tattoo itself to make it look aged rather than a super sharp, bright brand new tattoo. As an example, here are my custom edits to Kjaer 8's tatoos -

  • Solved it! Thansk for the tips crew.

So what worked for me was adding a texture with the tattoos to the base, but then adding the tattoos to the translucency map as well, and then loading that up too. The tats in the base only were causing them to be red. But, the tats, via transparency, being added to both base and tranlucency maps did the job. Thank goodness!

  • Melissa, that is a sick tip! I will try that as well!
