Environment Maps

I downloaded some HDRI environment  files.

IIn Daz Studio,4.12I go to Render Settings>Environment>Evironment Map then click on Browse in drop down menu and  browse to folder where the HDR files are .

Daz says "No items match your search"

Does not show any HDR (.hdr files) or jpegs that are in that folder.

Drag and drop an HDR file from the folder that contains it to C:/Program FIles/Daz3D/Studio4/Shaders/Iray/Resources (the directory where DS has it's default environment map) then click on browse and the default directory shows jpegs  and HDR files including the one I just dropped there. I can then load it.

Videos I have watched show that you can put the HDR files in your own directories and then have access to them.

If that is the case then I could use some help in figuring out what I am doing wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?

By the way if this is a stupid question it is not my first or last.

Many thanks for any help

Wheera re you keeping them? The OS protects certain locations - indeed I'm surprised that you can place them in C:/Program FIles/Daz3D/Studio4/Shaders/Iray/Resources

  • It is kinda weird you can find them in one location but not in another.

When you go to browse for the files, Make sure the "File name" box is clear in explorer.

Check that the file type option is on "Image Files" or "OIIO", and not something else in the windows explorer. The drop down is on the right side next to "file name" box.

make sure the search box is empty, don't enter anything.

See image one for highlighted sections to check.

I initially thought that having a folder/file properties set to hidden, and "Don't show hidden" set in folder options, might be a factor, but apparently DS will show hidden folders even when explorer won't. (Image2)

    Why be surprised?

That's where the default 'Ruins" HDRI is stored.

Just did a quick test and adding an hdri shows up just fine. See image 3

Many thanks again Richard for your help.

I should have thought of a possible OS problem.

I  Shut Down my computer and during the restart Windows informed me there had been a problem and would fix it.

My files are now visible to DS. Maybe that folder was corrupted.

A right click on the Render Settings>Environment>Environment Map icon shows the location of the default DS location. I simply dragged the files to that location.

Eveything I do on my computer is in Admin mode. Maybe that addresses your surprise as to it not being a problem to put files in that Directory. I am careful to document those actions in important directories like that so I can undo those actions if a problem occurs. I never delete any files from them. I might temporalliy rename one when doing some troubleshooting but no other alterations.

Again most grateful for your "Being there"
