I'm looking for a medium quality model of the Empire State Building for free, but cannot find one for the life of me. Any suggestions?

You can, read their EULA/TOS https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/tos.html
depends just what you want to do with it
redistibuting mesh is rather murky, people have in indie games but it depends on the model
but 2D renders are ok commercially

Wait, Sketch Up outputs Daz Studio-friendly file formats now? D:

I've been wanting to create things in a user-friendly environment like Hexagon, but since it's not stable under Windows 8, I thought all hope of rendering my own designs in DS was lost...

you can convert them if that is the issue
I thought it was a usage question
Blender the most common method but there is a sketchucation obj exporter plugin or buy sketchup pro
I have several programs that in fact open skp files

The Sketchucation obj exporter left did a better job than Blender dae import to obj export right which chopped off top
cannot find my Blender skp importer though Blender says its installed
