You can render with Iray without Nvidea

I know that no one has said that you cant, but generally it has been the impression I gained since its introduction that Iray doesnt lend itself to being used to render if you, like me, are using say an iMac, or perhaps any machine that does not have the benefit of an Nvidea graphics card. So untill the past few weeks I have stayed as far a way from Iray as I could, using the excellent but now somewhat dated Realliyu plug in to render via Lux. Then I got caught up in all the hype about the new Mac mini with the much praised silicon chip and its apparently much improved performace and integrated grahics, which I hope and still do, might allow me to explore things like Dforce on Daz. So I got me a new mac mini satisfied to wait until Daz got integrated, not sure who does that, presumably Daz, cant happen soon enough for me but thats another issue.

The point is that I have a venerable old Imac, 10 years now and recently becoming the proud recipient of of 2TB of SSD drive when the original HDD died. This old girl plods along on everyday tasks and still benefits from the 16GB of Ram i installed when she was just a baby, and I have been rendering with Iray for a little while now and I can say that if I can achieve renders like the one attached here, with this grand old lady of a machine, then I am excited to see what happens when the new Mac and chip gets to grips on DAZ.

This render took ten minutes, plus maybe another ten on some minot postwork in Photoshop to remove fireflies, and I am really pleased to say I think its pretty good, but no more so than a few others I have managed of late.

Very nice! Certainly true there are some options, but once you get card, the speed factor is just incredible. As long as it works for you, it's great!  I also wouldn't count out Diffeomorphic Daz to Blender, where you can use lots of settings from Blenders render panel. Or use EEVEE.

Thanks for your comment and points. Doubtless speed may be better with the card, but my point is I wont be getting one so in fact ten minutes for a render of what, for me at least, is very acceptable quality is good enough. No idea what you mean by Diffeomorphic Daz, presumably some kind of hybrid using Blender as well for rendering. Only just trying to learn Blender and from what I see Cycles would be the route to follow there which I think is the native alternative to Belnders EEVEE, but thats a whole new learning curve for me.

Point I am trying to make is if you dont have, cant afford or are concerned about lack of tech restricting your rendering options, dont be, because there may well be stuff your machine is capable of doing that you might not think is possible. Try them out and see..
