How big is the visual difference between genesis 8.1 and genesis 8?

So I've been looking to get back into messing around with Daz3d, and I just finished reading the official blogpost about 8.1 - https://blog.daz3d.com/genesis-8-1/
And while it mention stuff like shader and UV improvements, the blogpost doesn't have any side by side examples to showcase any of these supposed visual improvements. So I'm asking here to see what any of you that have worked with genesis 8.1 think about the visuals fidelity of genesis 8.1 characters compared to genesis 8 characters.
Curious to hear what you think of both characters that are purely genesis 8.1, like Victoria 8.1, and the difference for characters that have a genesis 8.1 and a genesis 8 version

With which character? Or are you asking about the new shader? Even then, because the maps used have changed, it would be tricky to do a fair comparison.
I mainly use Genesis 8.1 male so the things that I notice are much more realistic pores, more realistic expressions because of the bone changes, and though I haven't really delved into Blender, I am hoping for more consistent exports to other render engines with the new PBR shader.
I did not see any fundamental difference between 8. and 8.1 they use the save UV and the same textures ( besides the more detailed neck )
the difference in realism comes from the fact that 8.1 has PBR option turned on by default but you can turn it on on 8.0 as well
Afaik they only use the same legacy / g8 textures if you load a g8 character UNTO a 8.1 base figure. A true 8.1 figure has a different UV lay-out, the head has its own UV layout now, for more detail.
Definitely look at the texture maps of Micheal 8.1, Victoria 8.1, Torment, or characters like the new Thomas. The layouts are pretty different for Genesis 8.
Not really. The only difference is that 8.1 has alternate torso UV where the torso is split into 2 pieces with lots of detail for the head and neck (But it does not increase the detail of the torso itself because big chunk of the texture map is empty and wasted). Both figures use the same combination of files.
You potentially could even load 8.1 on 8.0 if you want (with some tinkering) if you copy 8.1 UV map to 8.0 but there is no obvious reason to do that because 8.1 will consume like 20% more VRAM than 8.0 with dubious benefits
Don't really care about any specific character. I'm really just interseted to hear if people who have experience with any genesis 8.1 characters think genesis 8.1 characters look better than genesis 8 characters based on their experience and personal opinion.
So for instance, if someone has any of the characters that have genesis 8.1 and genesis 8 versions of the same character. Then I'm curious to hear if they think the genesis 8.1 version look notably better than the genesis 8 version
And if someone has any of the characters that only have a genesis 8.1 version (like victoria 8.1 and michael 8.1). Then I'd like to hear what they think of how those characters compare visually to any genesis 8 models they've worked with
Biggest difference I've seen is far & away the eyes but you need 8.1 eye materials.
8.1 has extra geometry conformed on eyes, which you can also put on 8.0 if you want, like any other 8.1 item
This does improve looks as not eye surface has some depth but it does not require any extra materials
I was wondering if I should get the 8.1 male, at first i was "oh god, another version I have to upgrade to", but i think I'll hold off based on everyones comments, at least until everyeons stops creating stuff for the 8 male
The Geometry is exactly the same otherwise morphs wouldn't work.
For me, it is the expressions and the way faces move. I could never make any of my G8 characters look quite as natural.
