Missing Thumbnails

Anyone else having the same issue with missing Smart Content thumbnails?

It's happening to anything new I purchase now.

I just purchased Ozias HD and Broken Jester. Just dotted outlines appearing.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing.

Those thumbnails are the pics that accompany the metadata in the Runtime/Support folder. If it is missing, or has the wrong name, re-installing won't make a difference. If you are using DIM, you can check if the files are actually in the package, and if they are installed. For Connect, I suppose you could look in the file system to see if they are present.

I don't have either of those, so can't say, but in my library I did find a couple of Genesis 8 Male characters that actually do not have the thumbnail in the the product (Lewis HD, Warrin HD), and one with the DAZ Logo (Ceremony), so, it can still happen.

Try right-click>Refresh Metadata, but there does seem to have been an intermittent issue today so you might want to wait until tomorrow.

Thanks Richard. I did indeed try to refresh metadata earlier with no luck.

    I'll try refreshing tomorrow.

Thanks for confirming it does appear to be an intermittent issue, 17 of my recent purchases have same issue. I tried reinstalling in vain, and made sure I had everything set up right my end, of course it did not change anything. Atleast they work, just no thumbnail.

You could, bandwidth permitting, try uninstalling then put DS offlien, right-clickmon the product icon (make sure it says Install not Uninstall) and select Delete, then go back online and DS may download a good copy of the data - at which point you could reinstall.

I just tried this, but I don't see a delete option.

I had to go to Available tab (not the Installed tab) to find the product. But right-click only gives the option is to Install, not to Delete.

I did delete the product from Install Manager so maybe that's why there is no delete option in DAZ Studio.

    Still no thumbnails.

I guess I will hold off on any new purchases for now until they figure this out.

I bought several products today, even newly released ones. And most of them are missing thumbnails before they are even installed... I have raised a ticket already, but this is how it looks after I have let Studio re-import metadata several times.... I have closed down Studio and open it again, logged in and than wait for it to obtain metadata, but it still remain. Can't find the product folders or thumnail in the Cloud folder to delete it (likely because the product hasn't actually been installed yet)

Sorry, to see the Delete option you need to be in the products list in the Content Library pane.

    The problem continues!

I just purchased the "West Saloon" environment.

After installing it, I did see the thumbnail in Smart Content. So I thought all was good.

However, when I logged into DAZ to update meta content in Studio, the thumbnail instantly disappeared.

This is really starting to frustrate me.

    crying

Are you installing with DIM? It installs the same metadata that is available through Connect, so why try to "update" it? Any real updates to metadata should trickle down to the DIM version. If not, then DAZ is creating two classes of products and users. From the sound of things, Connect is what is messing it up. It is "supposed" to have the same metadata, why would it be different? Implementing it with Connect seems to still be problematic.

Thanks! I had not realized this.

But when I uninstall and reinstall with DIM the problem persists.

In the future, I will not login to DAZ Studio at all, because as you mentioned, there should not be a need to log in if I am using DIM to install products. That's good to know. Saves a step for me.

Well, now that Connect has touched it, maybe CMS is looking for the last reference to it. I don't know enough about Connect to know how to clean that up, and I always seem to step in something unpleasant when I try.

If there is a Connect install the Content Managment System will use that, even if the actual files are gone. Uninstalling the Connect files (through DS) should allow the other installation method to load.

Probably good to write a ticket so they know that more people has this problem. I got three of my bunch of products fixed already, but on the other hand the products I bought today also had this problem.. so, better to write a ticket than wait and see :)

I still have tickets for missing thumbnails on products from 6 months ago that have never been fixed. So I don't feel like reporting this issue to them.

DAZ once explicitly told me, once I had some problems with Smart Content, that you should never install a product with both DIM and Connect (which I'd done), it's either/or.  In my experience it's especially true if you install it with DIM first, even if you uninstall it again with DIM it still may cause problems if you afterwards install it with Connect.

Thing is.. atleast in my case, that the thumbnails were missing Before the product were even installed :/

I have done this with DIM, but I do not know if it will have the same effect with anything Connect.

If metadata gets messed up, uninstalling and re-installing, refreshing metadata, will not get rid of the pesky mistakes. It seems like it will add new entries, change existing entries, but not remove existing entries if they are omitted from the new metadata file.

I go to the Product view and Delete the Product. This removes all metadata pertaining to the items in the product (presumable any references to the thumbnail, too), and makes it disappear from any custom categories. All that is left are the Content Library entries, which need nothing more than to be in the file system, but they have no content identifiers (Actor, Material(s), Prop, etc.)

Note that it must still be installed to see it in the Product view before Deleting it. Once you do that, re-install from DIM and it should go back to normal. (Custom categories must be re-done for that product, if any).

Sorry, I lost track of the issue. My answer was for isntalaltion - but yes, if you go online in DS you get the "live" metadata and that does seem to have issues at the moment.

For missing product icons with Daz Connect installs (on a Windows computer), I just fix it myself and get over the fact the product icon is missing.

    1. Select the product, right click and select "Browse to folder location"
    2. Drill down to Runtime/Support and select, copy and paste into the folder the icon .jpg file
    3. Rename the copied file to 1_.jpg  1_<SKU>.jpg. The SKU is already in the name so just add the 1_ in front of the SKU and delete everything else.
    4. Move the file to ...My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\meta I have a shortcut to the meta folder setup and just move the file to the shortcut'ed folder.

Overwrite any warning message the file exists. To see it, I just click on a different category, normally "Lost and Found" and Click on the "All Products" category to see the new product icon.

IIRC, the Cleo bundle had like 7-8 product icons missing when I installed with Daz Connect on the day it was released.

    Edit: Formatting
Edit 3-23-2021 - Correct error in file rename as shown in blue

I am going to try this. Thanks.

Is the icon jpg file missing or there? Is it just a matter of copying it from the Runtime / Support folder to the product's folder?

Is there any update on a fix for this that doesn't involve manually deleting each affected item individually and reinstalling them?  I just rebuilt my studio install, and 95% of my products are affected by this.  Manually deleting every sincgle one and then reinstalling is really not a good option for me

I used Lindsey's instructions to fix my thumbnails, but I only had 5 that were missing, including 2 that I had put in trouble tickets for months ago. I guess this is just not a priority for support.

But if you have a lot of them to fix I can understand why you would rather wait for an update.

Lindsey's fix is very easy. You just find the directory that contains all of your products (the Runtime/Support directory). They are all in this one folder, so just search by product name on each missing thumbnail. Copy the .jpg files for each product to a folder on your desktop. Rename each file in the desktop folder to 1_[SKU#].jpg and then copy all of these files to the "DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Connect Library/data/cloud/meta" directory (under your username directory), overwriting the existing files when prompted.

Launch DAZ Studio and the thumbnails will all appear now.

Thank you for this (also Von Hobo)...just been through and sorted all my missing icons (some missing since day one).

For example the jpeg for Rynne 8 is in the runtime/support folder as DAZ_3D_64221_Rynne_8.jpg (copy and paste this jpeg to your desktop) rename the jpeg 1_64221.jpg  (copy and paste the renamed jpeg into the correct folder decribed above)

I did have the same issue today when I accidentally connected to Daz when I clicked on an uninstalled program and I was so dumb to confirm the connection... About 15-20 products did miss their product image afterwards, but I can confirm, this method works very well to get the images back properly. Thanks so much!!
