actually i'm trying to conclude the series of props ! to return to the planar-mechanism animation script,

then return to the mildly-awaited projects i started :)

for example, the physics simulation services

    there's 16 mounting hole edges

each edge has its own radius, sharp, AwayX and AwayZ morphs

    that's 64 morphs

but i also added 4 controllers that let you control the sharpness, radiusness and Away'ness of the 16 holes in one shot!

the 16 corner edges will have the same complement of morphs and controllers

    --------

figure 2 is from the the-making-of

it shows 2 cylinders used to isolate the corner-edge vertices

then a script, which i may someday publish, creates a Sharpen, AwayX, AwayZ and Radius morph

    note

    here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:257091

there's 3d objects in STL format, intended for 3D printing

some if not all are under the Creative Commons Attribution, Share-Alike license

Blender among others, with the proper plugin which i think is present in the standard blender can import STL files

and Blender can export in .obj format, which Daz Studio can read

    so ..... lets try it

i downloaded the thingverse zip file

unzipped the Flanged_Cross.stl file it contains

    it's 800KB

    i open blender

    i delete the default cube

    i do a file / import / stl

see fig 1 - 16000 facets, not too bad

    i do a file / export / obj

then in daz studio i do a file/import obj

    unfortunately it's triangulated

    but it's there !

the texture mapping is unusable, which is a good reason for you to get acquainted with mcjBoxUV

we're talking more than 144 morphs ( 4 morphs per hole edge, 2 edges per hole, 2 plates, 4 holes per plate plus the pipe )

so the shape can be used to make complicated excentric legs and funnels and what not

but thanks to banded controls ( ERC Links ), the standard pipes can be obtained with a few adjustments

    it's almost ready !

    -----

turns out i have 2 things to fix

the pipe's inner rims are not perfect quarter-of-a-circle

the prop exporter doesnt export the ERC Links

( i know how to do that )

at the last minute i discovered the inner pipe rims were imperfect
    but that will be fixed
    expected release tomorrow !
( and who knows maybe tonight )

the "flattenizing" rings put a stop to the curve of the pipe "lip"

this makes the top surface look very flat and the pipe tunnel look very straight

( those 2 terminating thin rings have the same normal as those 2 surfaces )

    thanks for the encouraging words!

i just have to make a quick google site page and post it

once that's done i think i'll get back the the machine animation script

Looks really good there C! Add in some morphs to the bottom to round and you have a lovely cafe table. Uh minus the holes at the top! LOL

    readyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ! oh yay :)

if you downloaded the prop in the 5 minutes following release
    the mychrome texture was missing
    but now it's there

note that for the promotional image i used a texture like that as the reflection map

eventually i plan to post the 6 recent props without the mounting holes
it will reduce the "weight" of the geometry and the prop itself
and anyway most of the time the mounting holes are hidden under bolts
also i may make versions with disk flanges

though this prop's mounting plates can be made almost round by using rounded-corners with an extra large radius

Neato. You make better stuff than the commercial modelers, it seems. :D
