How can I replicate this?

I am writing a story (fanfic, so don't worry about any legal issues) and I draw inspiration from a lot of things.
I use Poser for character and environment creation and post them with the chapters.
I want to create the underworld for my story similar to the pic posted.
A big thing about this environment is this weird obsidian crystal things EVERYWHERE. It's part of the environment for some reason.
And weird pieces of decay. But I really like the idea of those weird freakish crystal things. I just can't for the life of me figure out how I'd replicate them.
I don't think I am capable of creating them myself. I'm looking for something that already exists, that I can possibly apply a material to.
I have already tried, experimentally, with some materials I had, but it didn't turn out how I wanted at all.
I used Biscuits Sparkle IDL for the skulls and I used the darkest black I had but it still didn't turn out right.
I used a Dirty Pretty metal (I think it's by ParrotDolphin?) for the base of the chair
And then another PD Metals (Beat Gun Metal) for the step bases.
None of them are really what I was looking for...
So is there anything that's similar to this at all?
A material I can use? A prop I can apply the material to?

I'd try http://www.daz3d.com/latex-shaders
or http://www.daz3d.com/phoebe-s-fancy-shaders-for-ds-and-poser
We're not sure exactly what look you are going for. Did you want actual rough broken chunks of obsidian rock? google image search for obsidian and see what turns up. Obsidian is basically volcanic glass, so it can range from rock-like to glass-like in appearance, and it can break like glass with a curved fracture pattern. You would probably want it to be highly reflective, with a very dark color, and just a tiny bit transparent perhaps. You might be able to find some rock or rubble products and just replace their textures with your own shader. But perhaps you were thinking of something completely different?
RDNA has a number crystal props in their deep freeze by Traveller and Judith. There were some updated shaders for them in the RDNA freebies.
There are a number of glass/crystal shaders (you would simply need to change the diffuse color) in the RDNA Node Cult forum by Bagginsbill.
If you can't find anything there, post to the Rendo Pose forum. Bagginsbill, Snarlygribbly, and several others can probably come up with a good material set up for you.
You also might want to look for Bagginsbill's Matmatic and Parmatic. Both of them are invaluable when it comes to adjusting materials and parameters.
To find them, locate one of Bagginsbill's threads and go to his website. It's the same site you can pick up his EviroSphere. He has a series of car paint shaders there as well. I've found them to be a good starting point for other types of materials.
If you will ever use Daz Studio, you can try http://www.daz3d.com/metalized-glass-shaders-for-daz-studio
I have used Black Glass 1 and 2 preset in the scene below.
Below is the Daz Studio 4.6 Pro render of Morphing Rocks And Formations by EmmaAndJordi,
which I have bought from Renderosity (but they are not available any more there).
To light the scene, I have used http://www.daz3d.com/sphere-of-light-enviroment-lighting
One more example render from Daz Studio, using above mentioned shaders applied to
http://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-instuments
and Designfera Fantasy Rock Formations 2 from Renderosity
You might also be able to use the Super Shine Shader pack, with the opacity turned down a little. There is also this set of glass shaders. Once again, by adjusting the opacity, you might be able to get the look you're going for with the obsidian. FYI, both are FREE.
It's for Daz though? I don't have Daz, and I don't plan to get Daz, because it doesn't work right on my computer.
"Biscuits Sparkle" or "Biscuits Sparkle IDL Merchant Resource" from Rendo maybe?
Failing that here's some materials you can try.. The crystal is from http://www.daz3d.com/cs-snaggletooth-caverns
The reflection map is one I use a lot, you probably have it.. if you don't you can substitute another one. (check under Runtime\Textures\LuneDesigns\RefMaps for that one)
mm.. last one got cut off a bit, here's a better pic
Both of these have crystals and are apparently Poser-friendly, too.
Plus, they're on sale!
http://www.daz3d.com/magic-containers
http://www.daz3d.com/point-of-impact
The magic containers crystals actually are containers, so if you have any sort of transparency on them you'll see it.. probably okay for this project, but for general purpose crystals not so much.
"SV's Druid Staff" at Rendo has a crystal prop that looks nice and 16 poser mats for it, it's Prime if you have that, and also on sale for pretty cheap for non prime right now.
There is also SV's Crystal Rock by Sveva http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=101112
which I have rendered in Poser with Pond AO lights. There are 3 clusters of crystals available,
that I have put in the scene rendered below. There are also different materials available, including black ones.
