Elite Ponytail for G2F Question

I was just wondering if there are any major differences between the new "recreated" version and the original Genesis version, other than being designed for G2F. I can't really tell from the promo page.

Thanks in advance!

The V5 Elite Ponytail is one of the oldest Genesis products. Pre DUF, I believe. Been waiting for a G-2 version.

If you have the original V5 version I cant see the point in buying it, With a few adjustments and manual parenting the original works fine with all movement sliders useable.

This is the original used on Mei lin.

I think the main difference are the Textures...
the new one has ◦20 Texture, Bump, Specular, Transparency and Normal Maps (2048 x 2048)

    the original have only
    ◦5 Ponytail Texture Maps (2048 x 2048)
    ◦3 Ponytail Transparency Maps (2048 x 2048)
◦1 Each Ponytail Bump, Specular and Normals Map (2048 x 2048)
    ◦5 Scalp Texture Maps (2048 x 2048)
◦1 Each Scalp Bump, Specular and

and the new have .HR2 Files

Kind of wish they'd offer an upgrade price for re-releases like this.

Thanks for all the reply's/info, now I just need to figure out if the new texture maps are worth it. I've had problems getting the original version to look as good in Carrara as it does in the promos, so maybe the new texture maps alone would make the G2F version a good value.

Those will be the PoserCFs, so they will need the DSON Importer.

    Well, this is interesting.

I went ahead and bought the new Ponytail as part of the bundle; it simply didn't add that much to the price to get it.

The colors for the V5 Elite Ponytail are: Black, Brown, Blonde, Red. No variations, just those four.

The colors for the new G2F Elite Ponytail are: Black, Brown, Blonde, Red. No variations, just those four.

Does the new G2F Elite Ponytail have 20 individual texture map files? Yes. Yes, it does.
    - 5 Strands color files
    - 5 Skull cap color files
    - 2 Bump, 2 Specular, 5 Transparency files
    - 1 Normal map file

Texture files for the old V5 Elite Ponytail: 19 map files
    - 5 Strands color files
    - 5 Skull cap color files
    - 2 Bump, 2 Specular, 4 Transparency files (one fewer for the skull cap, for some reason)
    - 1 Normal map file

In fact, clicking on the files and looking at creation dates, everything except that one transparency file are the files that were created for the V5 Elite Ponytail in the first place.

So buy it or don't buy it, as you will, but you're not getting additional hair colors with the product. And, to be clear, I don't regret buying it; I just think they should be more specific about what those maps actually mean, so that people don't think there's that much difference between them.

The main difference is almost certainly that the new ponytail is rigged to conform to G2F; the old one kinked in the shoulders when you tried, I expect.

Yes Probably using auto fit it would distort the hair, but V5 ponytail is rigged (though I think you mean rigged for G2F) but thought I would add.

I dont use auto fit I normally load in Genesis 1 or 2 then use whatever morphs I want to use, But dont pose genesis 2 just leave it in the default position then deselect genesis 2, and load in your hair you want to use, right click it in the scene panel then click change parent and select genesis 2's head then use the scale and translate to get the best fit I can with it. it may sound a lot of work but its not really.

but as you see no kinks in the ponytail with this way and you still have all sliders working.

i have been tempted a few times with the older version, but the price and lack of realism has put me off. I just saw this one and really for $30 expected a whole lot more. It's sad there are so few hair sets that look realistic in unbiased renderers, either too low poly of mesh (thin and kinky), highlights painted on the textures, or not enough movement morphs for anything other than a portrait.

    I fully agree!!!

Out of curiosity, what hair sets have you found that will work well in unbiased renderers? Vida Hair (sold here) I've found works extremely well, but haven't found anything else that is quite as good yet. I don't have a lot of hair sets, mainly because I'm hesitant to buy them for fear that they will not look good in Carrara, Octane, or Lux.

Yeah, 30 bucks for a hair with a whopping four colors, that one made me smile. And apparently, they don't do upgrade prices any more, either.

First I want to say this comment is just a observation not a insult or a complaint.

I got a my hair ,dyed and permed Friday for less than what daz is charging for the g2f pony tail. Really!
so I think I'll pass on the g2f ponytail the one I already have the v5 works good enough. and I have tons of ponytail hair props.

With that said I want to mention again this not a insult to you guys at daz or its venders and I do relies the cost of everything has gone up. But I have to be honest with you all.
When I can buy real nice(real) clothing from Victoria secrets and Venus swimwear cheaper than I can buy 3d clothing from daz , it was time for me to change where I shop for 3d content
I love using daz studio a lot. Its one of my favorite 3d programs . But i just can't justify paying more for 3d content than real clothing.
here is example. i can go into pay less and buy a pair of 3'' heel pumps for $10 bucks on 25% off sale. and daz pumps cost $20 here on 30% off sale and $29 as a regular price. that is just sad. very sad.
I do relies how well the content is created here at Daz. But so is other content in other 3d venues and stores. but most times its 50% or less in price with out being on sale , than what Daz charges for similar content that is on sale.

I really do love using daz studio and the content here. But daz content has just got way to expensive to shop here anymore for new content, and the products on the fast grabs change like only once a month now, instead of daily like they use to. so I really have lost incentive to shop here when i can find similar products at 1/2 the cost.
Like I said its this is not a complaint I relies Daz has to charge what they do to stay in business I understand that , so I hope you understand when i say things cost to much here anymore for someone that has a limited budget for 3d content

And I am not joining PC again. Not just to get a few item on sale when i can take that same money and use it other places & can get more 3d content. with out having to be a paying member of the site .

I'll still browse daz content for sales looking for deals But I'm buying a way lot less here than I use to just because daz has priced themselves out of my budget. That is sad for me But I am sure Daz will have plenty of new people to buy stuff from you, so I am pretty sure my $100 a month 3d budget not being spent at daz is not going to be missed much.
I just wanted share my thoughts and feeling on the prices here at daz because it has just got way beyond my reach for common sense spending for clothing i can't even wear myself..lol
So please don't take this comment the wrong way I just wanted to be honest and state my business on the prices.

    Have a great day

Just sharing my experience, in case it can help people hesitating about buying that hair or not : I've bought the V5 one not so long ago, for use on G2F (I've never used Genesis 1), so I wasn't too happy about the idea to buy it another time, but I did and I'm SO glad I did :) :

Not only the new one can conform on G2F while keeping all its morph dials working, but it even conform on "hair-breaker" kind of characters, without deforming at all (unlike 99% of all hairs I know of). I mean, when using it on fairy/Aiko4 like characters (bigger head, bigger eyes than G2F), it doesn't break because of auto-follow, no weird shape around the eyes, and no mesh deformations around the neck/ears area... It just works.

If only all hairs could work the same :) .

The hair is nice, but after it was released initially for V5, there were so many renders using it, that I found it kind of over-done. It was just that commonly used that it felt saturated. Still feel the same when I see it used.

I'd buy it if it were a pc club item, but not at the current high price its going for.

To start with, I would not pay $30 for hair. $10.66 for me with Platinum Club. Quite pleased with it. Takes textures for a V5 ad-on I have. I need and use ponytail, braided, updo hair all the time. This will use it often. I'm happy. Others are free to feel otherwise.
