does gen 8.1 really require Daz beta?

Hi,

It seems that using a gen 8.1 figure requires one to install and use the beta version of Daz Studio, is that right? I find that very strange. First of all one has to go look for an explanation as to why purchased 8.1 characters don't load properly. And secondly how the functioning of these new products be dependent on the beta version? Or am I missing something?

    Genesis 8.1 requires DS 4.15.x.x - both the general release and the beta meet that requirement. Have you installed the updated Genesis 8 Starter Essentials and Default Resources?

    well that was the first thing i looked for. Couldn't find them and then i found some page saying that for that i should install the beta?
    Where can i find the starter essentials separately? (and do you mean just 8 or 8.1?)

    You can find the starter essentails in the product library part of you account

    You can find the starter essentails in the product library part of you account 

    Genesis 8.1 is included with Genesis 8, the default resources are a separate package that has the standard shaders that ship with DS among other things (to which the new PBR Skin shader has been added - though you don't need that for the Genesis 8.1 Bases.)

    thank you very much, i found the stuff there. I normally only use the DIM. Is there a reason why these starter essentials aren't in there?

    The starter essentials should be in DIM; they are for me....Daz Sources and Genesis 8 Essentials

    yeah, that's what i'd guess, but I really couldn't find them there
