At #12 on the 100 list, this render is an homage to Jon Jonson, the artist who created the cover. I couldn't find out anything about him, unfortunately.
The goal was to see how close I could get to the original while staying within Carrara. The cover looks kind of simple, but it took longer than i imagined.
There are several versions of the cover online. I ended up with a composite of the versions that I liked the best.
Processes include Toon3 and GMIC. The background "buildings" were made with a map from JSPlacement loaded on a plane.
David 5 is Frank. The stewardress is V3, the female hand is V4, and the other characters are versions of Stylized Business Man and Woman (I had never used those before).
The plane is the Lockheed Super Constellation, which fortunately was on Sharecg. Passenger ramps were constructed using primatives.
All text was Carrara text, as per the rules, including the text part of logos. The only exception was the plane, which came with a few TWA texture maps.
No postwork.
super job UB, wonderful to see what you have come up with and your use of various characters - and thinking outside of the box, going back in time
Googled the original album cover - you did a good homage
Wonderful work, everyone. I will have to circle back to comment on each individual image, but the WIP thread is full of great albums. Feel like there should be extra points for adding sound.

great to see the Constellations in a render... with Cranky Frankie
my brother in law does maintenance works on a Super Connie at our local aviation museum
BTW, does anyone remember what shader channel glare works on, or what other setting I must have, doesn't seem to work atm I know I am forgetting something.
A new cover inspired by souvenirs. A youngster faking being "on the road". I can't pinpoint who did that, but it seems to me it was done many times.
Nothing special on this render, a figure, some clothes and a HDRI background, a light dome to match the HDRI. Could have been done in Studio I'm afraid
Still more great work everyone!
Will be back this week end to make more thoughtful comments.
Bunyip - Thanks, maybe there is still time, I do see we have until the 30th?
+1.
I think my original idea is still worthwhile, and is a niche yet unfilled. Hope to finish. It does require some minor modeling which I haven't gotten around to. Time snuck up on me.
Meanwhile, keep up the great work everyone. Abundance of awesomeness.

mschack, Try putting your rainbow shader in the glow channel only....you may need to adjust the brightness down a bit.

Thanks HW and Bunyip!
I really wanted to get the face closer to the original, but it would require postwork.

title: Zamba Jam by Misty
my inspiration for this, there was a saturday morning cartoon called Groovy Ghoulies
the old poser zombie. no store link. guess they vaulted him. think its a he
files#prod_9067
converted to Carrara. text with th ewave modifier hdr dome
hdr from https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-iray-hdr-outdoor-environments
what I do with that hair is add the bump map as the transparency .. it's in the neftis folder with the other colours it's file name is bbstrdbum.jpg
also in the modeling room you can turn on smoothing if you like but probably not necessary

Not an entry
Here I used a free sample of head scan. If someone wants this sample to play with, it's here:
https://www.3dscanstore.com/blog/Free-3D-Head-Model
I also made a morph shape similar to this head on my custom figure. I made Carrara's native eyelashes for both heads.
It was native render, no postwork.
Misty, those Zombies look as though they have not eaten brains for days and days !!!
Vyusur, very nice render - love the textures !!
Thanx a lot!
the rockers is not an entry;
just an older relevant project.
lots of interesting images there shlomi
loving the assymetry in that face and hanging the composition off a circle is a gem
thanks Stezza, great idea. I tend not to smooth it as it hangs my machine!
pretty close as it is - I think the main difference is the soft shadows in the original - plus the chin clefty dimple thing :)
perfect image Mysty - love the lighting and reflections/shiny metal finish
Thanx
Fascinating! I agree, those are classic planes. I noticed you dabbling along similar lines a few weeks ago. :)
Question for the Supreme Ruler.
Can we do a gatefold image "only," without also doing the front and back covers?
That sounds ok to me
Thanks! May do a cover for it anyway, but I don't want to run out of time.
Still more great work everyone!

I'll see you on the dark side of the cube...

Figure is M7 with Ayden morph (Thank you Misty)
Cloth is Traveller for G3
Background is Mealie road from HDRI Haeven
Text is Carrara text primitive
Scene setup:
Render is native Carrara
Post is a GMIC film emulation Kodachrome 200 to give a more 60s look

mschack, it's the glow channel that affects glare and/or aura. But I believe that glare works on more than just glow
Thanks McGuiver and Dart. Will play around with it. The 'beams' are already in glow and it didn't seam to do anything. Aura worked but not glare.
