This product includes a mushroom cloud that could be used for an atomic blast:

    Try their volumetric explosions: https://www.daz3d.com/pyromantix--volumetric-explosions

Also, if the default shapes aren't suitable, you might be able to kit bash several of them together.

OK... that one is pretty good. But will wait for a sale, too expensive.

imagine not looking at the same vendors other products before posting.

I will say, those pyromantix products are very high poly and render slowly for me. And scaling them larger/smaller seems to drastically change the way the smoke renders because it uses SSS distance properties.  Correct me if im wrong, but that was my experience.

if price is an issue, you could look at making own explosions in Embergen since i think it has a free trial.

According to EmberGen's requirements, you need at least a GTX 1060 or greater (Edited to add: or an equivalent AMD card)... Blender also is capable of creating volumetric fire and smoke (via it's "Principled Volume" shader), but I'm not sure what the requirements are and even though a few of the good images I've seen of mushroom clouds are pretty cool, it seems they might be using a special shader called "Wisp" ($10).

I'm pretty sure my computer would make its own mushroom cloud if I tried to use any of these volumetric shaders or high poly meshes, so I've got no experience with them.

Also... I'm assuming you are looking for the classic "nuke" type mushroom cloud specifically, not one of those Hollywood/Michael Bay type gasoline based explosion mushroom clouds they use for every explosion from a malfunctioning Bic lighter to a hot dog cart tipping over... like the cloud after it's risen up, with the fire ring and deep stratospheric cap... right?

If you wanna try blender for making some cool pyro sims, I recommend trying stable and not beta. I used the beta for mantaflow fluid sims fine, but trying to use the pyro stuff, it kept crashing every time I went to bake out the sim. Hopefully that won't happen in the regular blender release, but I couldn't be bothered to install another version to try it when I can just use houdini lol. Was only trying to get a feel how blender sims stacked up to houdini.

...maybe that 4090 Ti might work then again in may just turn the entire house into a mushroom cloud.

EmberGenFX beta is included with all OctaneRender subscriptions too. smiley

  • Uh, can volumetric flames be animated?

In Daz Studio, Fluidos II's volumetric fire can be animated.

Aha! Thanks! I'll look at that today.

I guess you can try changing the emission settings? And maybe changing the render settings too like increasing the contrast
