A season pass without a roadmap?

    Suddenly I've got chills.

Me too. I was about to ask jessica about the "flare" below the avatar when i realised the release promo for this was already linked in today's promo. If i wasn't liking DAZ up to this point, now the feeling is worst.

    Definitely not falling for this....

    Same here.

I think it is very bad timing, coming up with something that is, basically, a loyality program, if you have been constantly anoying your customers beforehand. Before the NFT stunt, that would have been an option for me. Let's see how that one is adoped.

WTH is this? I already have Platinum Club, which is now going to go unused until it expires. The prices keep going up there...more "watch my right hand so you can't see what the left is doing?" Is this to soften everyone up because the NFT crap is going over like a lead balloon? More insult to injury...the first "free" character is another female. Noooooo thanks.

I guess it depends on the customers since some seem to be pretty annoyed all the time on the firums with DAZ, unlike myself. I don't like the NFT scenario myself, but it's not enough to have me complain about DAZ constantly either. The season pass isn't for me, soley based on my buying habits, but there seem to be many that are early adopters and do purchase core characters, so it might be for them.

Well, for those who collect Daz characters, the offer is actually not too bad. A base character plus HD add-on is about $60, less some change. With a PC+ introductory discount its still about $40. The "Platinum Season pass" is 5 characters including HD add-on plus a bit of extras for $199 (or $149 if you are PC+ already). You get two items free. But that could be anything. If I would be part of the marketing crew, I would add a statement like "Total minimum value of $xxx".

It seems the road plan is: How to make your loyal customers turning away from you to other software.

  • Hurdy3DHurdy3D Posts: 1,058

$150/5 is $30 per base character and the hd addon.

That's only a good deal if it's also with the bundle.

  • What would be useful is Daz telling us what they see as the primary issues/areas of potential improvement to work on.  No promises, no release dates.  And I'm not going to base 2021 buying decisions on features that might not be available until 2026, or might never come to be, so giving us some sense of where Daz is going in an imprecise "long term" isn't going to have any effect on current content sales.

What I see as primary issues/areas of potential improvement:

    1. I use Daz Studio almost entirely for still renders.  Other users want something that would be a platform intended for animators.  Others want an application for manipulating items for export to another platform.  Is it viable or wise to develop two or three separate applications, or is there a way to serve three different markets well with newer versions of Daz Studio?

    2. Relatively few potential users of Daz Studio or content can always work on high-end machines with enormous RAM and ultra-fast processors.  The world of consumer devices is moving toward smaller, lighter, and more portable. Those devices will have inherent limitations vs. a high-end desktop. How will Daz remain relevant in a world of tablets, smartphones, and PCs that aren't state-of-the-art?

    3. Is there a way to make dForce and rendering meaningfully faster?  Hoping that everyone will have a supercomputer won't solve the problem.  The machine I'm using now is much better than it was 8-10 years ago, but the scenes I'm rendering are more technically demanding.  My process from start to finished render takes almost as long now as then, and the improvement is only because I have a better idea of what I'm doing.

    4. What areas of figures/characters can be improved?  How about deformation of soft tissue?  I still see weird torsion of the upper arms.  We've seen great improvements from the Generation 3 & 4 figures I started with.   Maybe fibermesh eyebrows that don't look like eyebrow toupees (Eyebrow merkins?  What would the term be?) made of steel wool.

    5. Better clothing fit and adjustability.  Daz Studio still doesn't recognize multiple kinds of tops.  Blazers and sports bras are fitted to the characters the same way.  In real life, they don't fit onto the body in the same way at all.  Fasteners (buttons, zippers, etc.) aren't simulated well if you make significant morph changes (fatter, thinner, taller, shorter, big boobs, small boobs, pot belly, etc.).  The same is true for fabric print (plaid, floral, etc.) and fabric weave/mesh.

    6. Autodetect of shoe geometry (high heels, platform soles, etc.) and auto-adjustment of  foot and leg poses.

    7. Better parenting of props and accessories to figures.

    8. Streamlining the Daz Studio interface.

    9. (Alternate universe point--I've no hope on this one).  Making a minimal effort towards proper documentation and explanation of Daz Studio features.

(How have I survived without Platinum Forum Flair?)

Am I willing to pay for a season pass that includes Genesis 8.1 stuff that needs DAZ Studio in version 4.15? - No!
Am I willing to pay for the right to partake in contests? - No!
Am I willing to pay for tutorials from DAZ itself? - No!
Am I willing to pay for gimmick flair in a forum with disappearing postings? - No!

Just a hint: Season pass owners only get 2 assets that are still to be determined for free.
For the 5 upcoming base chars and their HD addons, you apparently only get a one-day heads-up in advance buy offer.

My understanding is that they're the evaluating the benefits of the package at USD 425.  If you're a plat, it's a lot less.

I'd sooner go and spend that on another software tbh.

Here's a fun question: How long is a season? Seriously. Could be a quarter. Is only open to PC+ members, too. Too convoluted. Time to go. cheeky

Sorry, that is not correct. You get the 5 base characters plus their add-ons for free. That is not stated in the promotion contents, but the front page in the store

Ok! Maybe you're right. Either way, there are a lot of loose ends in their promo.

maybe they are evaluating the value because of the webinars, contests and the forum badges? none of these have a value for me.

so I want more details about what we get with the pass? get we just the base char and hd or get we all bundle items?

Definitly, but when did Daz last have a promo that was 100% understandable, no strings attached, and no fine print?

Yes, it would be nice to know if they are abandoning the bundle concept before agreeing to something like this.  Or is the thinking that we just get the character early and then get an xx% discount on the bundle(s) in the following days?  I don't think that would work for me.

Also would like to know how long a "season" is.  If it is a 2x per month release, like we'd been having with G8F/G8M, that would be 2 1/2 months.  But the 8.1 seem to be coming out faster.

I think you will - if at all - only get the base character and the HD addon. And maybe a small discount on the bundle the next day, if you really get the base char for free.

Well, trying to get some sense into all that marketing bla bla, I would anticipate the following:

    • you get the base character plus the HD add-on a day in advance
    • You usually get a decent discount (10 to 20%) for a bundle when owning the character, via.the used-to-be-purple-but-now-it's-orange banner
    • Given that you own the character already, you should get a discount on the bundle.

The deal could be worse.... On the other hand, I might be totally on the wrong track, as Daz has proven to be 100% unpredictable.

that's what I also guess. so we would pay $30 per char to get a discount of 10 to 20%. frown

sounds for now like a very bad deal.

You are correct, a base char is about $30. But You also get the HD add-on, which is about $27, IIRC. Plus you get 2 items for free, but Daz will decide what. Could be some Victoria 4 stuff.

I would have appreaciated a bit of fine print like "get a minimum of $xxx on Daz items" to make it clear. The current promo leaves too much guesswork.

At any rate, even if I felt good about the deal (which I do not), I would NEVER want to buy ANY characters sight unseen nor without knowning if they're male or female beforehand. I have females coming out of my ears and just don't want or need any more.
