RL Graffiti Tags / Iray Graffiti Works

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to work with these products, but the documentation is sparse to say the least!  Plus, the search function on these forums is *TERRIBLE* (return every result with a vowel is the algorithm, I think :P )

Both products tell you to load a prop, load a decal node, parent the decal node to the prop and choose a texture.  Sounds great, and easy! But nothing happens. At all. I'm floundering around trying to get this to play ball, but literally can make nothing happen.

Anyone else got much experience with these?  From the product listings they seem like awesome powerful products, but I'm simply sinking way too much time onto trying to get these to work using next to no guidance!

For example, the RL Graffiti Tags' product read me is blank, and the only instructions that I can see that it has are copied from it's store page:

Note: All this power is in your hands with just a simple decal Node that can project the tag directly on to most surfaces (just make your your parent the node to what you want to Tag).

I've tried every which way I can think of to make this happen but absolutely zero has happened.  I know it's probably something simple, but I'm banging my head against a wall atm.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

One thing to know about decals is that you can only see them in Iray preview mode or in the render itself. In texture mode they are invisible.

You don't mention if you are using Iray, which is required for those decals to show in renders or preview.

Sorry, I did indeed forget to clarify. I am using Iray. It's the only render engine I use.

Make sure the Z-Axis is pointing away from the surface, and that the surface crosses through the decal's bounding box.

KindredArts usually includes a "Standalone" and a "Wearable" decal with their products. Those should handle whatever arcane ritual you need to do to summon a working Iray decal. Just ignore the stench of pig's blood and eye of newt.

When I want to learn how to do something new in Daz Studio, I go to YouTube

I just get a png graffiti tag from google and apply it to the texture map. There are dozens and dozens of them. You don't need to waste 20 bucks when you can do it yourself for nothing.

  • This is incredibly freaking late, but what you do is go to Create - New Iray Decal Node. If you have previously selected a mesh in your scene, you can opt to parent it to that. Then, you apply the decal DUFs directly to that item.
