Dream scene, how?
I'm trying to render an image (several actually) that's part of a dream sequence. I really want to be able to differentiate between the real world and the dream (or vision).
I don't know if I can do it all within Daz, or if I'll have to post-process any image with some other software.
So, particulars. I'm looking to create one or more of the following effects.
1) "soft" lighting. I remember old TOS Star Trek episodes, and they would almost always light 'the babe' that way.
2) "foggy" lighting, some what similar to the above, where everything in the scene is slightly obscured.
3) "bright" ligthing, I've seen this washed out look on occasion
4) "blurry". Where everything is out of focus. The background is just a blur, but a character is just a touch out of focus.
Any help would be appreciated...
thx

3 could be done with the Tone mapping settings, assuming this is Iray
4 could be done with Depth of Field - just make the focal distance ana rea that is in front of or behind the character, with a low f-stop so that almost everything is out of focus.
1) I think you're talking about bloom. If you're working with IRAY you can experiment with bloom settings in Render Settings -> Filtering
Personally I prefer to add bloom afterwards in Photoshop or GIMP, it gives you more control. There’s easy to find tutorials on YouTube.
2) There's several ways to add fog. I use Atmocam 2 but there's other products, too. Be aware that this drives up the render time quite a bit.
Here's a free one (I haven't tried it myself): https://www.renderosity.com/rr/mod/freestuff/prop---fogsphere/79716
3) You can experiment with Render Settings -> Tone Mapping but as with bloom effects, I think it's better to do this in post.
4) You're talking about Depth of Field (DOF). Can be done easily in DAZ, here's some resources: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/432966/september-2020-daz-3d-new-user-challenge-depth-of-field-and-canvases#latest
Here is my first test. I put four characters into a scene at different distances from the camera, and as suggested, tweaked depth of field. I would say it's "serviceable". I'll have to continue to experiment.
BTW.. it took two hours, 1 minute to render.
The black noise on the foreground hair looks like a bug in the latest DS / iRay version.
One workaround is to select the hair in the Surfaces tab, and check that "Cutout Opacity" is not 1 (change to 0.99).
Looks nice but ouch, 2 hours. Could be faster if you render the center girl and the background girls separately, then put together in post (only 1/4 needs long render, the others are blurred anyway)
