Now that I'm finally making moves from V4/M4/K4 to G8MF ... is there a way to convert that far?

Now that I'm finally making moves from V4/M4/K4 to G8MF ... is there a way to convert that far? I'm hoping there are tools I can use to move V4/M4/K4 characters, clothes & shoes (gloves, hats, jewelry, etc), poses, etc, to maybe base Genesis then those to G8 ... is that even possible, and if so, hit me with links and how-to's so I can start buying & converting. :)

Riversoft & Sickleyield (?) has some converters for cloths and hair, like this

Cool ... I'll check it out. I like their customer service, too. I'm concerned converting all my characters is going to be the hardest part.

I see I will want to add RSSY Clothing Converter from Victoria 4 to Genesis 8 Female to this list :)

I forgot I also will need to convert so much hair! lol

Getting the characters transferred is going to be your hardest thing.  Check out this thread.  Biggest thing to keep in mind is GenX2 is no longer supported because the creator is no longer with this world.  Zev0 has the XTranfer utility also along with RSSY's Characer converter but none of those convert from V4.  This thread has a small tutorial on how to convert to genesis manually if your interested in that.  RSSY also has hair converters.

Keep in mind that the skin texture sets for Generation 4 were not intened or set up for Iray where as the G8F/M sets all are so you are going to get better results out of the box using current generation skins.

I would REALLY not bother converting hair or skin; the tech has come a LONG way and results are unlikely to look that great.

I'm grabbing RSSY's hair converters: RSSY Hair Converter from Michael 4 to Genesis 8 MaleRSSY Hair Converter from Victoria 4 to Genesis 8 Female

If I already have the Genesis & Genesis 2 base and a couple of characters, will I still be able to make the conversion?

I'm not an Iray convert anyway ... lol ... I bought RSSYs Iray to 3DL tool just so I could completely avoid it and still use never stuff. My primary needs are NPR.

Having said that, lol, I probably should grab Iray Converter for Genesis and Generation 4 Bundle for the off chance I'll want to give Iray a try someday.

You can try converting clothes by fitting them to Genesis and doing the AutoFit thing, then taking that and fitting it to Genesis 8.

I have thousands of dollars in characters with skins ideal for my needs. If I can salvage even half of them, I would feel less sick about making the switch.

Looking around, I've found Legacy UVs for Genesis 8: Victoria 4 & Legacy UVs for Genesis 8: Michael 4.

From what I can tell, if I can't find full character conversion tools, these will at least save my favorite generation 4 skins. :)

From what I read, AutoFit is somewhat clunky. I tend to drape most clothing for more realism anyway. But being able to convert things that don't convert well is important to me. Makes it worth paying for whatever tools I need for the transition. I waited a long time to make the move as it is because genesis wasn't impressive enough until now.

GenX2 still works to convert characters  from Generation 3 and 4 to Genesis 3 and from there to Genesis 8 use either RiverSoftArt's or Zev0's converters.

I love these!! they work well and I still use 3Delight , and while tech has come a long way  Generation 4 skins were under appreciated ,and not all were set up properly for DAZ Studio. It all depends on what makes you happy

    My thoughts, too, Carrie :)

V4 & M4 have supported my household since DS3 days. I've collected a sizable library over the years and am not ready to totally let go of them entirely. So I'll do all I can to keep them relevant and usable.

I use GenX2 to convert from Generation 4 to Genesis 3 and from there to Genesis 8 using either RiverSoftArt's or Zev0's converters. Both are good but produce slightly different results. I recommend having both and trying which works best in each case. You will still need to create JCMs in some cases.

I don't bother with clothing and hair because ew. And only very few specific textures. Legacy UV's work really good.

Poses. There are batch convertors, but for a freebie option for doing it one at a time until you get them, there is a pose transfer option when you apply the pose to V4, and use a script to transfer it to G8F/G8M. I have done four you may find of use. You may come to the conclusion that the V4/M4 poses can generally stay with their generation, and for a few odd ones these scripts would be all you need.

V4->G8F: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/448391/v4-a4-pose-transfer-to-g8 and the other way if you want one: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/450206/g8f-pose-transfer-to-v4-a4

M4->G8M: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/448936/m4-h4-f4-g8m-bi-directional-pose-transfer (both 'from' and 'to' M4 pose transfer scripts are in this thread.)

Hope these may help. No animations, though, my scripting knowledge doesn't run to that.

    Regards,

    Richard

Thanks :) Your knowledge on the subject is much greater than mine, lol.

When you added what, GenX2? You will need the main program and both the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 add-ons to convert from V4 up to G3F. Or were you talking about another converter?

That's what I was talking about ... wanted to make sure I'm getting the right things. Now these convert both character morphs and the textures/skins?

    No, GenX2 converts only morphs.

OK ... I best get everything at once while they're still available.

And lets seem some renders of converted characters please!

I am a big fan of the V4 clothing stuff mysefl so I am always trying to see what I can get to work.

Sometimes, I can get the clothing item to "fit" to a G8, but I seem to loose the original clothings fine tuning in the shaping/posing tabs.

    Am I doing something wrong?

I've been concerned about the same issue ... I made the switch to dynamic clothing a long time ago and have started learning dForce for the added control of draping items not necessarily made for draping. I'm hoping that will help me with awkward fits. But I'm sure the clothing converters will help even more.
