Why are "what is this" questions being moved to Product Suggestions?

When people ask what product is used in a certain promo or user render, why are those questions being moved to Product Suggestions? They aren't product suggestions. They are existing products that someone is trying to identify. Has some posting guideline changed recently or something? How are people going to find replies to their questions when the question has been moved to another forum?

They are "In search of" posts, which are also suited for Product Suggestions. They don't get moved unless they start of in a clearly inappropriate froum, like that for Daz Studio.

Another sketchy move by Daz. Was this announced? Why don't you just make a permanent what is this section instead of moving it to a place that makes no sense.

There are so many "what is this?" questions that it seems to me that it would definitely make sense to have a separate section for them. I don't see anything sinister or 'sketchy' about moving this type of question out of places where they clearly don't belong -- like the DAZ Studio forum -- but I have to agree that Product Suggestions seems an odd destination for them. In Richard's place, if I couldn't persuade DAZ to set up a dedicated Product Finder forum (for "what is this?" and "where can I find a _____?" questions), I might push them to The Commons. Although The Commons is so crammed with everything else (it's the DAZ forum equivalent of the folder marked 'Miscellaneous'), I can sort of understand why he might not want to do that.

I actually like seeing them there instead of the commons. Funny how many of them turn out to be products the user already has installed but didn't realize, just saying.

I'm not shy about second-guessing Daz, but Product Suggestions is a better place to discuss 3D assets than Daz Studio discussion.

The forum should be organized better, to accommodate specific interests and include sections like "What Is This Thing" and

    • Image and Video Postwork Software and Techniques
    • Animation
    • Forum Games
    • General Computer Issues
    • Miscellaneous Third-Party Software

Until this post I always looked at "product suggestions" as a place folks can ask for what they would like to see......but after Richard pointed it out, that forum title does say "All suggestions, ideas, or other feedback concerning products, both existing and desired."   ....which actually does kinda make sense for those questions "other feedback concerning products"

    Somebody posts "What is this?"

Other people make suggestions about what it could be.

Yeah, "Product Suggestions" is the right place for it.

Especially since that's already the right subforum for people asking "Can you name me a product that has [X]?" which is the inverse of somebody asking "What product is this?"

I had seen product ID questions there a lot already. I check over there often for this reason.

They only ask those questions in the Commons because that's where the most experienced buyers of DAZ 3D content frequent in the forums. That's the more practical consideration than moving such requests to a forum section where one's question is likely to get ignored anyway.

And the questions in the Commons get left there.

I'd also like to point out that, the odd lapse aside, I do reply to the thread to say it has been moved - assuming the poster has notifications on (which, for ones own threads, they are by default) that should ensure they are aware of the move.

We've also use Product Suggestions for "request for, not offer of, a freebie" threads for a long time.

We don't want the forums to become like Renderosity, though. That place is a mess, can't find anything.

I am generally forum agnostic, I just look at all new posts:

would be nice if product pages did a better job of giving promo credits.

or dress all character promos in the basic wear.  and bald is beautiful.

and guy characters all need a glute promo, basic wear should work for that too.
glutes is the 1st thing i check out on a guy.  and a creit check.laugh

I've heard that many PAs don't do their own promo shots, so there's a good chance they themselves don't know what products were used.
