Fresh Install of Daz Studio Probs

I've been wanting to clean out my Daz Studio for awhile now; barnicles since 3.x I think.  Been out of town for awhile & seemed like a good time to do that.

I uninstalled via the Win10 Apps manager then deleted left over folders, but didn't go after the C:\ remnants.

If you really want to start from scratch, seems that starting at the Daz3D page would be a logical start. Yet when you & click Download Studio, it takes you to Daz Central and no other option. I'm hesitant to use that frankly from some mentions of issues with it in various forums.

But I was able to find the .exe files for both Studio & Install Manager:

DAZ3DIM_1.4.0.67_Win64.exe
DAZStudio_4.15.0.2_Win64.exe

If you install Dim First, there's no separate Windows App Installer. So, I tried installing DS as well. It runs showing just the basic items as would be expected.

I exit DS & Run DIM again, and DIM still shows all of my account files ready for D/L and I get this message panel:

I select those & install (even though I just saw them in DS). I've set paths based on my working Laptop install to equivalent D:\ paths on the Desktop. Yet no matter what, a selected item in DIM shows getting installed, but then next time DIM is launched, it shows everything I just installed as right back in the Ready to Install & none Installed.  I just Exit.

I did go ahead & let it install ALL ready for download, (fiber optic is nice in such situations).  Sure enough, ALL is in the Ready to Install column, none in the Installed.

Yet launch DS & it shows most in Smart Content with 70 or so items in Lost & Found.

What am I missing here with DIM?

If you didn't reset the database after removing the old instalaltion it will still show content as isntalled. In any event, it's not a good idea to mix methods so don't use stand alone installers for some things and DIM for others.

So, how does one do that?  And what should I use to install then? I'd rather stick with using the DIM.

By all means use DIM, it has the fewest items it can't handle.

You can reset the database via the Content DB Maintenance tool  avaialble from the Content Library pane option menu (the lined/hamburger button in the top corner, or right-click the tab). Be aware that that will completely clear the database, including any entries for your own files etc., so you might want to use the Export User data option in the same place first.

So with the first question, & avoiding Daz Central, which of the exe files should I use then, or order of install if both as I've done to get started?

I have older Scenes saved off to a different drive ( as well as duplicated on another system) so don't mind clearing everything at this point on the main system.

So after clearing the Content Db in DS itself, DIM should then install as expected?

Clearing the database should remove any mistaken notion the system may have that things thata re not installed are - to make it see the things that are installed you need one mor trip to the Content DB Maintenance dialogue, this time enabling Reimport Metadata (which will also let you reimport any saved user data). Done of this has any bearing on  what is installed, it affects only those views based on the database (Categories, Products, and the Presets tabs in property panes).

I'll give that a shot tonight then.

    Thanks Richard.

I've uninstalled/purged folders to start again with DS install.

Installed DS first & did the Db maint Clear, then installed DIM. Repeated the Maint. Clear again, then ReImport. DS populates with the basic products, but still having the same issue with DIM wanting to re-install what it just installed, the Default Install Sets in this case.

What now? Something in the Registry that can get edited?
