Just updated my Graphics Card

Thought I would post a thought on the RTX 3060 12gig Graphics Card I just got installed. It has improved my render time to no end! My system is quite old. The motherboard is Asrock X99 Extreme 4 with 64 gigs DDR4 RAM on a Widows Professional 64 Bit O/S.Intel early generation i7-5820K CPU@ 3.30GHZ. I rendered two Genesis 8 figures plus hair, limited clothes, and props over 40 frame image files at 1700X1200. It took less than 2 hours. I can imagine how fast rendering would be with an updated motherboard, latest generation Intel i9 processor, and RTX 3080-90! I can but dream with the cost! Cheers

Which card did you have before?  Also 12 gigs you lucky... I've got 8 :(.  Was hoping for a 16Gb 3070 but with the chip shortage that's not going to happen is it.

  • I purchased a new system a couple of weeks ago with a 12gb 3060. Render times are fast and I can easily render a scene consisting of a large spaceship bridge with star scene props out the window and 5 G8 characters, which was what I needed. I was previously using a laptop with 8gb memory shared with graphics.

  • I had a NVIDIA K2200  4 gig Quadro Before. Was very stable and did not overheat.I recommend the RTX 3060 12 gig  for an upgrade if there are any available! I was lucky my computer shop got the last one from their supplier. Cheers

  • i need help, i just got a new pc and my daz wont let me sign in... when i try it crashes, i got the same graphic card as you

The GPU almost certainly has nothing to do with this - more likely security software or settings, it is something that affects some users. You do not need to sign in to use Daz Studio, you can choose to work offline (but then you will need to use Install manager or Daz Central to isntall your content, and you will need to get your serial number(s) from your Account pages or right-click on an entry in Install Manager)

  • I'm running an AMD Ryzen 9 with 32 gb of system RAM and an RTX3060 with 12 gb of vram. This set up is great for most scenes; however, when trying to render a crowded scene it still drops back to CPU rendering. My system will accept a second RTX3060 but would that help? Would the 2 cards combine the 12gb of vram to give me a total of 24gb or would the system still drop back to CPU renders as soon as the fist card is full?

AFAIK the only RTX3 series cards you can nVlink and pool the VRAM is the RTX3090 and of course the Quauddro series.  If you have CPU fall back, you may have exceeded your Max VRAM (12 Gb). You can use SceneOptimizer to keep some of the resources in check.  Also, I noticed when I have scene using VRAM upward of 10 Gb, my system RAM usage show 40 Gb. 32Gb of system RAM may not be enough to handle large scenes

Thank you for the prompt answer. Yes, I'm definitely going over 12gb (confirmed by system monitor and post render log file), so far the 32gb system memory has been able to contain it. It sounds like working with optimiser will be my short term solution.

...currently have a Maxwell Titan-X and have been looking at the 3060 but no decision on that until prices come back to earth. Hoping Maxell support for Iray isn't dropped beforehand. Specs are rather similar save for faster memory, processor, 500 more CUDA cores and the addition of RT cores.  One other advantage is an 80w drop in TDP..

According to TechPowpowerUp, the 3060 has 34% improved performance over the Maxwell Titan-X

The one issue is my system has only PCIe 2.0 slots, DDR3 memory and a Westmere Xeon (can't really afford to upgrade CPU, MB, and memory) so not sure how that will affect performance.

...the RTX A4000 is the only pro grade model that is not NVLink compatible as it is a single width card.

....that must be a pretty hefty scene I tend to be pretty "ambitious" with my scenes but at most have barely cracked 6 GB of VRAM.

Mattymanx also has a couple shader sets that are more VRAM "freidnly" which can be used on background elements.
