OT Painter X3 Academic, for a pre-teen? or Painter 2015 Education?

I was asked to look for a gift for an artistic 12 year old with an older Intel Mac (core 2 duo 4GB, OS 10.10)
I thought of a medium size wacom tablet and while looking at a piece of software called "Painter Elements 5" I saw another piece of software called "Painter X3 Academic" that I can get (legally) for $29.00
I never heard of this software before and wondered if anyone has ever used it, could recommend it for this age group.

[edit] Corel has informed me they no longer sell X3 Academic and there is no way of knowing if I can liscense the copy being sold and I should look into Painter 2015 Education edition.
Anyone use that?
