Hi guys, is there any easy way to convert G3, G8, even old V4 character's skin shaders into G8.1 PBR Skin Shader?

I have the Ultimate PBRSkin Manager, which is very powerful to modify the skin parameters, but I couldn't find any function to do the conversion.

Any tips? Thanks a lot!

P.S. What's the difference between "Ultimate Iray Skin Manager" and "Ultimate PBRSkin Manager"? Which I should I use? Thanks again.

  • According to the Product info, it comes with a .pdf document. If having problems finding it, check your Product Library to manually download a zip to look through for it. That should explain how to use the product.

The Iray skin manager would be for the normal iray skin shaders. The PBR Skin shader is new to 4.15. One applies any shader by selecting the concerned figure in the scene, then selecting the surfaces on the Surfaces Tab, then clicking on the desired shader. Then, wild guess, one would open the manager panel to tweak settings as desired.

  • I'm no expert, so take what I am about to say with a grain of salt, and others can correct me if I'm wrong, I like learning from my mistakes.

PBR stands for Physically Based Rendering.  PBR is how the render engine handles light, with PBR it calculates how the light enters the scene and interacts with objects, and can get very close to photorealistic results over other types of renderers.  So, "Ultimate PBRSkin Manager" is for changing parameters of skin to use across multiple PBR engines (I think).

NVIDIA Iray, while being a Physically Based Render engine, has its own recipe and algorithms for making that happen (as do others, no 2 are alike).  Using Iray skin manager will allow you to manage your skins for Iray with Iray specific content in mind.  While the PBR one will allow you to create different skins for different renderers (Octane, Arnold, etc) without the Iray specific things.

  • Thanks, guys, I read the attached PDF. It doesn't mention any function about converting legacy shader into the new PBR shader. That's why I was hoping to find some other Daz products that can do the trick.

My ultimate goal is to convert old V4 shader into IRAY shader, or IRAY shader into PBRSkin shader, with all the textures intact.

    Thanks again.
