Best way to add to scene via Diffeo??

I kept losing some Blender settings a few times when I was importing new models via Diffeo a few times before I realized it was the import that was doing it. What is the best way to add models from DAZ Studio to a scene in Blender? Would it be better to add the items to an empty Blender scene and them add them via native Blender imports?

what settings and items are you losing
Diffeo updates your render and light settings if they are not good enough. This avoids a lot of issues to newbies who don't know how to setup cycles and eevee. But you can disable this in the global settings. Then it's up to you if the scene doesn't render right.
The hdri is replaced of course if you import the environment. You can disable it in the global settings too. It would probably make more sense to have it in the import options. As for lights diffeo shouldn't delete or update anything that you already have on the scene, so you may want to double check.
I import the character into its own scene, and then link it into the scene where it will be animated. You have to make the armature a proxy object. This will be improved soon with Library Overrides.
