edited November 20 in Freebies

This update restores all the models that were once hosted on Foundation3D back to the list as available.  No new models were added and none were updated.

All models are now hosted on my Mega account.  Models that are also hosted on Trekmeshes and DeviantART have additional download links listed.

The model conversion tutorial is is outdated, won't be updated and was therefore removed.

Any .ace files require Winrar 5.2 or older to open them.

Haven't had a problem with any of the others... but this one always crashes D|S4 on my machine when I try to render... not sure why...

Otherwise, thanks for all the work Matty!

    So it does.

I dont have time to look into this right now. I may just remake the CR2 from scratch later on to see if it makes a difference.

Crap, I love this ship! :(

I hope it doesn't crash in mine. Haven't tested it. I will when I get the chance, at college right now. :)

When I look at the secondary hull, I see errant polygons I can see through... that might have to do with it. It's my intention to build my own in Hex eventually...

Thanks for pointing that out Wancow! I will try to remember that.

Matty, you might want to give the v2 two-part USS Enterprise-D Poser model a check. It does not seem to want to load in Poser 8/9 or Pro 2012.
It loads okay-ish in DazStudio Pro, but not in recent versions of Poser.

Have been noticing the same type of missing segments issues on several other models.

MM-USS Defiant (Top of saucer section is invisible.)
MM-USS Ganymede (Saucer rim not showing)
Enterprise-A (triangular sections in saucer are invisible, and when changing to other registries from 1701 to 1701-A, causes more sections to vanish.)
Enterprise-E has sections invisible around the main shuttlebar door on the saucer section.
ST11 Enterprise has sections that are invisble, mainly around saucer section and on top of saucer. Usually empty or black gaps.

I've noticed this issue happen frequently, when I export lwo files to obj, in Lighwave, and also when I do exports in poseray. Not sure if it's Poser. Been trying to convert a Blake's 7 Liberator to Poser, and every version I convert, winds up with huge triangular chunks missing from the body.

So, I can guess this is not human error, but more software/coding error, either when models are transfered from lwo/max/3ds to wavefront obj, or Poser has some issue reading obj files properly.

I will look tomorrow if I remember in Poser 8 since that is the latest I have but if its what I think it is then on each surface in Poser's Material Room, look for a checkbox for "Render Normals Forward". The newer models I am converting I am trying to remember to make mat files for for Poser to correct this in one click. I admit I did not notice this issue in the beginning in Poser but I am trying to keep an eye on it. Its easy to forget though since I do all the work in DS and its not an issue there.

    Lord Iffy,

For all the Madman ships, including the ST11 Enterprise, there is a Poser Material preset for each in the Materials folder. I forgot that I had included those. The Mat files will fix the issues with those.

For the Enterprise-A, its the same issue as with the Madman ships except i dont have a Mat file made up at this time to fix it. I will try to get one done by the weekend.

The Enterprise-E loads up with "Normals Forward" alread checked, or at least it does for me. So any holes seen in the preview are not present for me in the render. I also looked at the ship in DS and did not see any holes. However if you are still seeing some, please do a render showing the spot so I can see if there is anything else I can do about it.

Enterprise-D... that one has me stumped. I do not know why the model will not load. I will have to redo it to see if I can correct it.

For the models you are working on, it may be the same issue I encounter where you need to go to the material room and for each surface, check off the "Normals Forward" option. In DS this is not an issue since it renders normals forward by default.

    Hope this helps! :)

The updated Enterprise D is back online. I recommend this one over the previous version regardless of whether or not your a DS user.

Cheers for the hard work. You're awesome. :) Will dabble with the models again, and do as you suggest. :)

Keep up the awesome work with the conversions, and I always love looking forward to checking out your work. :)

The Enterprise A will have to be redone. I forgot that someone pointed out that it crashes DS4 when you try to render it. I have noticed that too and will attempt to fix it.

I tried your suggestions on the Enterprise A, and it still rendered with triangular chunks of varying sizes missing in the saucer, neck and nacelle pylon areas.

However, as you will be redoing the Enterprise A, it will no doubt be sorted. :)

Again, you always do sterling work with your conversions, and I look forward to future releases, and hope to see what conversions you have coming next. (hopefully some movie era stuff like the Phobos and Leavenworth).

Oh, and the new Enterprise-D conversion renders like a charm. No loading errors, or issues. She's great. Awesome work, Matty. :D

Oh, it's an awesome conversion, Matty. :) You really hit it right out of the ball-park.
Just trying to figure a way to make the deflector dish light up, without having to use Photoshop to add the rear glow lighting from behind dish emitter.
    :-)

In Poser 8 and up you have the option of mesh lights. You may want to find something you can put behind the deflector dish to give it that glow effect. 4 primative cyclinders may do the trick. Or 4 resized primative planes

As for the Enterprise A refit, not matter what i have tried it still crashes DS4 when you try to render it. So instead of trying to fix it I may just find someone elses model and convert it instead. I dont see a point in trying to fix it for Poser when its not going to crash DS4 when you try to render.

Oh, I agree about the Enterprise-A issue. Hopefully one of the models on Foundation3D or Trekmeshes may work out better, and there does seem to be a few pretty Enterprise-A models on both sites.

Problem and solution with the Enterprise Refit has been found (helped that I looked at the log file for DS4)

I will decide how I want to fix it later as I have multiple options.

Matty, the Cantell renders like a charm.
I'm guessing that the original model was designed to have pivoting warp nacelles. But, still, you did an awesome job converting it. :)

Im not sure to be honest. I dont remember there being much division in the model when it was converted.

That's okay. :) It just looks like the original designer may have, at some point, played with the notion of having the pylons pivot up or down.

It's still an amazing conversion. :)
